Yep the cops were spending their own money and dropping off coffee and doughnuts to those people downtown. I went down there to see what it was all about. The problem is there's no "leader" and all the occupies have a different motive. They're pissed but they don't know at what. They want change but have no solutions. If they ever get organized country/worldwide, change can happen.

They have no direction and their identity/perception is that of a college drop out looking for a handout because of the lack of leader. I agree that the system is not perfect and that there needs to be some modifications but the Occupy movement is a lot of whiners not willing to work for what they want IMO. They did a disservice to people that actually have valid points to be made.

Three years ago I tore a tendon in my right wrist and went to the emergency room for medical assistance. At the time I had no insurance. I was only there for 2 hours, a nurse saw me, a doctor saw me, I had an X-Ray done, the doctor came back in and told me it was a partial tear and gave me a wrist brace stating surgery wasn't required.

Days later I got a bill for $2,200 from the hospital!! $800 of which was the X-Ray technician's fee (the x-ray took 5 minutes!).

My cousin who works at the same hospital summed it up perfectly. Look around you in the emergency room, you're probably the only one there with a legal social security number and the only one the hospital will ever see a dime from. So I'm the one who gets my wallet raped so the hospital can recoup costs associated with legally being responsible for treating people who are in this country illegally.

Ahhh - Illegal immigrants - those of you that live in WNY have no idea of the numbers of people living in this country illegally. Get into the south and midwest and there are tons - TONS of people in this country that are not here illegally working with a stolen SS#. That said, there are at least half of them working hard and doing things that the typical American male will not do, ie. wash dishes, construction work, landscaping, any hard manual labor... It used to be that the American male would go out and earn a decent living no matter what it took, but now the alternative is to easy. Plus - the immigrant will do it much cheaper - and to be able to afford the services in many of these industries, we count on the low cost of their labor. BUT - the another evolving problem is the kids of these hard working immigrants are just like American kids - growing up without a father there because he is working long hours - sitting aroundplaying Playstation and watching crap TV and being lazy and unwilling to do the hard work that their parents do to live in this country...

I'm not dissing hospitals at all. I'm referring to the system that we have in place in this country that forces me to have to pay for being a citizen.
- SabreHess

oh i know.. It is the system of "hope" the drafters of the bill of rights did not have this in mind. We were supposed to be a country of self thinkers and self sufficient people who didn't need to be told what to do by the government but we were supposed to tell the government what to do..

It is a service they provide and it is a business that needs to make money to continue to provide said service. The building isn't free the doctors aren't free. they get stiffed on so many bills that once that one doesn't get paid they pass that amount on to the next guy.. Since your options are limited and it is a service most people need people still show up. Not sure about you but i am thankful for hospitals and would like to say if it was not for them my son wouldn't still be here today

Many of the people that work in hospitals do amazing work.
However, have you ever seen how hospitals bill people, and how their billing & finance units work?
I have as I used to work in one. It's a total mess, and a complete joke.

Example: my stepfather received bills regarding my mothers final stay in the hospital before she passed from cancer. Those bills were for a few hundred each time, and they were for things such as gloves, needles, etc.

If that isn't alarming enough, the bills were mailed to my stepfather for the first time 4 YEARS after my mother had passed.

In 2007 I had some kidney stone issue's. I went to have the stones blasted but it I was unable to have it done based on where the stone was and because I'm to thick(their words not mine).

They still charged my ins company for the proceedure and requested me to pay the co-pay. Most people just pay it. I refused, phoned my ins company and advised them they didn't do anything and just threw out the cocktail they were going to give me to knock me out.

The ins company investigated my claim, the Dr's office had to eat my copay and the amout they billed my ins.

My job is verifying the data that these illegals provide to their 'employers' in order to work. (Google 'E-Verify', that's what I do).

We have a database that tells their detailed stories on how they got into the country, how they got their illegal documents stating they are legal in the US, how much they paid for said documents, etc. etc..

You wouldn't believe what some people will do to get into the US and how much they pay for documents to show that they are legal.

There are some bad, bad people in this country that are not here legally.. I see it firsthand every day...

but the reason they have to send out these charges is because of Jose Jernandez who went in and got some surgery and gave false information the jumped the bill, or little Tony who decided that he didn't need insurance but went to the hospital and after he got out of the hospital decided it was time to file for bankrupcy because his with and an itchy credit card and he just couldn't get out of the hole she dug him into

amen to that.... it just sucks that we don't have much of a choice when we vote these idiots into office. Furthermore we stand pat when they continue to ruin our country and deplete us as citizens. It makes me sick thinking about how corrupt federal organizations have become...

Problem is there are options available.

It comes down to being lazy.

Once you apply for state funded ins they back date your application 90 days. Many people don't know this.

I don't have health coverage at this time. Could I have it? Yes but I don't feel the state should be paying something for me that I don't use. It is nice to know if something happens though it's there for me. Even if I still have to pick up part of the tab.

On top of that - the individual has no ability to negotiate what he/she has to pay, whereas insurance companies pay FAR LESS than what you or I would have to pay for the same services.

E Verify - know it well - and most of the time employees have to go through that process for government subsidized work... IF that service was mandated - it would emliminate the ability for illegals to work in the US...

Other way around.

I used to collect medical bills. If you don't have ins, you get billed a lower amount than if you have ins. It's the hospitals way to compensate for the people that don't pay.

Many hospitals will settle with an individual as well. The problem is many just don't have it.

Interesting...

So for example, a friend of mine currently has no insurance. If something happens to her the can then file for state funded insurance and they would back date the plan so she would be covered ??
