If we sell and i really think we should.. goose is one of the players that could get us something.. he would be a great 4th line center on a team looking to solidify their lineup and get better at the faceoff dot.
- SabresFaninIndiana

If he really loves it here, he could go as a rental and resign here on July 1st.

But here's the thing. If they work out an extension for him right now, he'll probably get 4 years 12 million or 5 years 15 or 16 million. If the plan is to trade him for a pick and resign him on July 1st, it could cost even more.

The market on centers is shot. If you look at the UFA centers this July, Gaustad is bigger than most, better at faceoffs than most, and younger than most. I think he will be one of the biggest overpayments this summer. I don't think we can afford to overpay when we know exactly what we're getting. I bet assistant GM Ryan Miller disagrees.

"Under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, Bishop will become an unrestricted free agent after this season, unless he plays 30-plus minutes in 17 NHL games this season. If he somehow manages to hit that threshold, he'll be a restricted free agent."

That's why I believe we could get him on the cheap because unless they move him, they lose him for nothing.

I would imagine that Tampa would be a team that is real interested in acquiring him.

That just seems backwards. Usually when they play more they hit UFA status sooner.

Kassian said he's not gonna go because he's not that into it.

Garth implodes.

- rayzablades2

It's bad when I've already asked myself this question:

Has Lindy already lost Kassian?

He's a young player and they're up and down, but this season is shot. He should be up here and no offense to the guy, but Matt Ellis should not. The same goes for Tropp. Seeya Cody McCormick, since he doesn't fight and brings nothing else.

I don't know, that is just what I have read. He's been sharp this year with 2.3 GAA and .928 sv%, albeit in the AHL.

he is an rfa at the end of the year

25 year old goalie

6 games in the nhl

seems to be a .900 save guy and .28 something GAA wherever he plays

3rd rd pick

depth move, nothing more, nothing less IMO

- homiedclown

he is a big guy and at one point was supposed to be the next goalie for the blues.. they had so much faith in him they went and got Halak and signed brian elliot to be his back up... TIFWIW

i don't want Goose at 4 years 12 mill.. he has two or three decent seasons left as a 4th liner.. he is not worth that kind of coin..

Well in all fairness, they didn't expect Elliott to put up these numbers (no one did). He was brought in to compete with Bishop for the backup role. Now with the new contract for elliott, bishop will either be traded or just let go.

I agree with all of this. Just listen to any NBC Sports game when the Sabres play. Commentators are always very complimentary of "big Paul Gaustad."

Perception is reality. If he becomes a UFA, he gets 4 million plus easily.

Agreed. I'd take him for less than a mil, to make sure he stays on the fourth line where he belongs.

The only time I can remember being glad to see goose on the ice was when he was taking a faceoff with only a few seconds left in the opposing zone. Unfortunately this year, we've already been down by several points by the time that happens.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I feel like lately he's been getting tossed from the faceoff more often than he actually gets to take it... when your biggest (or only) strength is taking the draw, you damn well better not get tossed.

Plus the most common byproduct of Lindy's system seems to be that these guys become head cases. Goose exemplifies this mold. If he's a 3rd or 4th liner and only expected to win faceoffs, play sound defense and chip in a few points here or there, the pressure is off and he should be a better player for it. Here he is a giant in the land of smurfs and expected to be an on ice leader. It's made him fragile.

Goose shouldn't get nor does he deserve anything more than 1.2-1.5 mil per.

Period end of story.
