If Hartnell is finally chosen, considering how the last couple of years have gone, it's a great comeback redemption story.

I do hope Bryz is in net tonight...you can see him finally coming into his own. Pluck the shootout crap.

Schenn is playing well and i hope he keeps it up. I'm liking the trades more and more as the year goes on.

ASF posted an article in the Delco Times about Hartnell. http://www.delcotimes.com/sports/

It's a good read. I had my issues with Hartnell early in his time here, but he's gotten it, and embraced his place here. He's put up consistently solid numbers and works hard.

Yeah, it helps that he is a funny guy who is able to laugh at himself. But it's more than that. He does a lot of good things and has improved his penchant for ill timed penalties and found a spot.

I think 10 games is a good measuring stick, but I had used this month. He is 4-2-2 with a .907 save% and 2.85 gaa. Over the month thats not bad..

Heres the thing that really sticks out to me this season.. He has either been really good or really bad. There is rarely a game where his stats show that he is meh. Its like a save % of .953 or .867

He needs to be more consistent

That has been his curse all year long. He's either lights out or really off.

Exactly. I was pissed the day I heard that trade go down.. and said many times that Dallas VASTLY overpaid. If you are giving up James Neal, who only put up 24 goals his rookie season, followed that up with 27 goals his sophomore season, and was on pace for 33 goals (before being traded) in his third season... and you are including a former first round pick 2 way d-man who had posted 61 points in his first 2 seasons... you better be getting a poop ton more than an oft injured slightly above average offensive d-man.
- jak521

Goligoski was exactly what they were looking for however. They needed a puck moving dmen that could play the point yet be reliable enough to defend. With this in mind they still as you said vastly over paid for him. Yes, Neal struggled last year but well his actions this year speaks for themselves. Nisk has the same points as Goli has soo Neal was just a throw in.

that trade was a joke. gogo is a 2nd tier puck mover traded for a 1st line winger and a developing third pairing dman. forgot if there were any draft picks...

the fact that you chose not to use the precise # of gms that would skew the stats to make him look better shows what a negative bryz hater you are!

- isaiah520

The problem is that two games absolutely can skew a guys numbers.. You could have a guy play 10 games.. win 9 of them while making 93 saves on a100 shots.. and then play one game that he loses and lets up 7 goals on 28 shots and have a save % go from .930 to .890. Thats why it is important to look at trends..

A bit harsh for a guy who has been laboring with some abdominal and hip injury this year, no?
- dcflyerfan71

No. If he is injured he only hurts the team by not getting it fixed. He shouldnt try to be playiing through it. As a matter of fact, if he is out witha concussion then why cant he get the hip and abdomin fixed if he is going to be out anyway.

I will judge his play off of Panotch. Haven't read many "Bryzard of Oz" articles recently. So he must be improving

The thing is Niskanen has top 4 ability. He was a 1st rd pick who posted 61 points in his 1st two years. He is steady defensively and has a decent amount of offense to his game. Hell he is on pace for nearly 30 points, 100 hits and 100 blocked shots, yet plays most of the time as the 5th man in Pitt.

EDIT: He is only 25

Not as simple as you make it sound. There are a lot of decisions that go into injury treatments.

Last year he was right in line with career averages statistics wise. Can you plz explain what was wrong with him last year? I know 2010 was a bad year for him but he did have a good playoff run that year too.
- JoeRussomanno

Joe, from what a read from time to time, he was going through a divorce and some personal issues. As much as he tried to not have it affect him on the ice, it did.

Yea, well if the reason he isnt producing is because he is injured then he needs to take care of it. Better to miss him for most of the regular season and have him in top form for the playoffs of fully healthy by the start next season, then have him waist a spot in the line-up performing at 35% for an entire season, and still not being healthy for the playoffs.

many coaches break the season down in ten gm increments, so it prob is a good measure for a goalie as well. easier to throw out a bad gm here or there if the overall performance meets expectations, which in this case, it hasn't. hoping the 2nd half goes better.

That's a fair statement, but what I was taking exception to from the other post was the statement that JVR was not a man and isn't performing due to issues other than health.

If JVR is indeed in need of surgury, then, yes, he should get it taken care of sooner rather than later.

The problem with using that logic on a goalie is that their stats are percentage weighted stats. One game can realllly throw off a goalies numbers.

If you want to go by 10 day increments.. look at game to game numbers, not a compilation of the numbers..

If you look at Bryz's last 10 games you will see that in 5 of those game he allowed 4 or more goals. That cant happen. You will also see that he allowed 2 or fewer goals 4 times. He (as I said earlier) is a hot cold guy right now. We need more hot than cold.

The team and JvR may feel differently. The doctors may tell him that he could have surgery on the hip and not be ready in time for playoffs, but can play on it with out risk of further doing damage and play through the playoffs. The team cannot force him to have surgery.

At the end of the day, he still has 22 points in 37 games. He is not as "ineffective" as some people want to make him out to be.

On our flight home from the Nashville game, Panotch and Carchidi were on our flight. We ran into them in the terminal waiting for our bags and asked them if they knew more on JVR's status, etc, etc. Carchidi actually chatted us up for a few mins surprisingly while Tim stood there silently with his eye twitch in full form

He does a terrible impression of 90% of the people he thinks he can do. Bryz is Borat somehow. Guys a (frank)ing clown.

its just so stupid. It irriated the hell out of me. I am so sick of the morning crew and Barkan. I was happy to have Eskin gone and it took me all of 2 months to be utterly irritated by him.
