I went on vacation a couple of years ago and we went to South Carolina. I was told it was where the Shrimp Boats were filmed. As we were putting our Jenny in the water, we were watching this guy fish and saw that he didn't even have his pole in the water. We asked if he had any luck and he explained to us that he was just enjoying fishing but didn't really care if he caught anything. He said if he went home he would be told to do stuff around the house, so he chose to come hang out at the pier.

Ovechkin has always come off as a guy that would do anything to please the fans which is why I had a lot of respect for him but saying that and dropping out of the ASG is just stupid. I'm pretty sure other players aren't into it either, but they go for the fans and that's what he should be doing.

This is 100% legit in my mind. Just like a player being injured.

"My heart is not there. I am suspended, so why I have to go there?" Ovechkin said. "I love the game. It is a great event. I love to be there. I am suspended. I don't want to be a target. I feel like I'm not deserving to be there right now because I am suspended."

Capitals general manager George McPhee said the team supports Ovechkin's decision.

"Because he's a suspended player ... he doesn't feel he deserves to be there, so he's not going to go," McPhee said. "He doesn't want to be a distraction to the event. ... You know what all the questions are going to be, so it is a great event and he doesn't want that distraction and we don't want it either."

Captain, sincerity readings are coming back inconclusive, but his statement does seem to be quite logical.

Is there a bit of pouting going on with OV over this? For sure. Maybe even McPhee too by the sounds of his comments on the suspension.

"In light of yesterday's suspension, we informed the Capitals that, while Alex Ovechkin was still welcome to participate in this weekend's All-Star festivities in Ottawa, we would not be insisting that he do so," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. "We now understand that Alex has decided to withdraw from this weekend's events. Given the circumstances involved, we understand Mr. Ovechkin's decision in this regard, and have no intention of pursuing this matter further."

It's the opposite of the TT thing. He's NOT starting a controversy by NOT attending. At least not imo.

He doesn't deserve to be there because he doesn't deserve to be there. I'd be happy to see James Neal, Patrick Elias or even his line mate Nick Backstrom.

Which, of course, means we won't be beating this topic to death. For shame.
