I dont care what the tradition is. If you dont believe in something then you can shouldnt have to be exposed to it just because people did it before you. There is a time and place to stick up for ALL your views, and its all the time, everyday. Otherwise your just another sheep being led to slaghter. You go time thomas.

The fact that people are saying something about this is a joke.

Obama has been a joke of a president, and one of the worst we've ever had. But thank god the media is able to blind us from the truth!

And thats your right to do so.

I'm so tired of people telling other people what they should or shouldn't do. Its his life to do what he wants to do.

Its so stupid that people are upset over this. Grow up.

I don't have a problem with his beliefs. He can believe what he wants. I only have a problem with how he handled the situation.
- feelingkettle

I can understand how it would bother some people.. and I think he should have just gone.. but at the same time, I will not sit here and say bad things about the guy because he did what he believes in.

Pretty sure all the statements I've read from players and the team were stating their disappointment that he wasn't there. So maybe it was a bit of a big deal to the team.

*snip*

- feelingkettle

Does this mean the Bruins are going to stop playing well in front of him? I could handle them collapsing a bit.

Oh I see, so TT can disagree with people, but I can't disagree with him. I get it.

Schenn with Giroux is awful. Schenn is the only person on the team who doesn't play better when paired with Giroux

A guy throwing his personal beliefs.. not sport related, not job related... but core values and political beliefs.. out the window for other people... is not being an idiot. Its being faithful to yourself. That would be like telling a christian that he has to go to synagogue because the team was invited, and him turning it down because its not his religion. Thats a personal belief.

James Harrison didnt go because he didnt feel like it. Both when Bush or Obama were in office. Thats his decision.. good for him.

- jak521

That's your argument? It would be OK to turn down a visit to a Synagogue because you're Christian? I'm blown away by this reasoning. You win I'm moving to France!

They said this morning on sports radio that he could have had the team issue a statement saying he would/could not attend due to personal reasons. This would not have been a lie on their part. Instead, TT decides to bring attention to it. He's a smart guy. He knew this would get people talking. I also respect his right not to attend. But I also agree he could have handled it differently.

When the Celtics won the Championship Rasheed Wallace showed up at the White House, while George Bush was in Office.

Tim Thomas outclassed by Rasheed Wallace.

What a selfish douche Thomas is. He made the day about him, instead of his team.

- PLindbergh31

Honestly, I could really care less about what Thomas decided to do. I dont like politicians just like I dont like the Bruins. I hope their entire day was crappy.

I'm probably to the right of Thomas in my political views. That being said, I think Thomas should have gone because he is representing the Bruins and the NHL, not the Republican party.
- MBFlyerfan

He was representing himself.

This is complete and utter nonsense.

Good for Thomas. Here in America we have the right to CHOOSE. Unless we keep electing democrats.. in which case they'll choose for us...

No.. my point is that he chose not to endorse someone who is the opposite of his beliefs. And if you wanna move to France.. so be it. Better then turning the USA into France.

It's not about the man who is the President, it's about respecting the Office. Thomas I believe is the only American player on the Bruins team that won the Cup.

If Thomas has a problem with the way things are in America, he should go play hockey in another country. He has no problem making millions of American dollars. His actions were selfish, and he made the event about himself by not attending, instead of being about his team.

Disagreeing is one thing, saying he's wrong is another.

Worry about yourself. Not about whether or not Obama had his feelings hurt.

It's never been a political event. I don't understand how making a non political event look non political makes it political.
- feelingkettle

It is political simply because the President is involved. The want to show the country what a normal guy he is. Hey I am just like you, I like sports. I'm here to honor the sports champion of your league, at the White House, because I'm the President.

If it were the President of Best Buy, it isn't political.

With the President of The United States, EVERY event he attends or hosts is political. If you don't think his handlers are scripting everything he says and does because a potential voter might be turned off or on because of something he says or does not say, you are crazy.

You can bet they are looking at ways to spin this event against Republicans because of what TT did, as would a Republican administration do the same if it were reversed.

I may sound calloused or jaded, Im not. It just is what it is. And has been as long as politics has been around.

Its the same when a President throws out a pitch , or awards a medal, tells you his favorite or least favorite foods, etc etc etc. Its all scripted for maximum political benefit and minimum political damage.

On another note... that woman that just died in the snowboarding accident... she was Canadian...

How come their family has 550,000$ in medical bills? I thought canada had a great health insurance deal?
