As yes, the constitution, that unchallengable pinacle of wisdom which everyone quotes but no one's actually fully read in this halfwit country (further offensive preamble: America sucks!). The founding fathers had a great vision alright, where black people and other minorities were worth 3/5ths of a WASP (Article I, Sec. 2 ) and where people could hold property rights over fellow human beings and force the government to return their property should he/she/it escape to another state (Art. 4, sec. 2 ). Sure was the perfect image of liberty and justice for all back then, yessir.

But suppose you're right, the constitution is infallible, all knowing and perfect in every way. Thomas said that "I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government."

So what does the Constitution say the federal government has the power to do? We let's see what the founding fathers envisioned shall we (my emphasis is in bold to highlight some ways Thomas may have stretched his interpretation that freedom and liberty trump all in this country:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; - Definition: Congress can raise taxes to whatever rate they want so long as it's an equal rate across the country

To borrow Money on the credit of the United States; - Can borrow and spend whatever the hell they want

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;

To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;


To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;

To establish Post Offices and post Roads;

To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries; - Can be interpreted in many ways, normally related to intellectual property, but those SOPA clauses seem to be enshrined in this document, don't they?

To constitute Tribunals inferior to the supreme Court;

To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offences against the Law of Nations; - Can manke whatever law we want female doges!

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions; - We can kill you if we think you're being bad, citizens, so stay the course and don't screw around!

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;--And

To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof. - again, we can do whatever the hell we want suckers, deal with it. Government rulz!

Did you make it this far? Good for you! Basically this lovely little document gives the federal government the power to do whatever they want in areas of their jurisdiction provided it is approved by Congress, the representation of the people. So if it's approved, tough, that's the way the system was designed, the way the founding fathers envisioned it, and the way it's worked since 1789.

Thomas is just an angry douche who feels annoyed that he can't choose what his own personal tax rate is and should try and clarify what exactly he means by his rhetoric on the founding fathers because nothing I've read backs up his claims or those of the Tea Party and their retarded stepchildren (if you're angry at this, that includes you). I'm not a liberal, I don't care how you view the world, and I believe you should be able to do and say whatever you want so long as, in a political discussion it's based on accurate statements. Thomas' ramble was not, and should be seen as misleading and contributing nothing to the public discourse. And now to be banned for expressing an opinion...

Maybe if he didn't post his "statement" on his facebook page and make it so dramatic and about him it would have been a bit more tasteful.

The fact that we are even discussing this just proves that this was a poor decision by TT... did he think him not going would create this epiphany for everyone? this magical awakening... opening everyone's eyes to the fact that the american government has been (frank)ed up since most people posting on here were even born. Its no secret things need to change. Americans didn't need Tim (frank)ing Thomas to remind them of that.

This is an honor bestowed upon a team since god knows how long and the key word being team. If he were a tennis player... or a (frank)ing horse... and he didn't want to go for some individual award.. then by all means.. sully your own name.. but to shed negative light on the TEAM and the NHL as a whole is just plain idiotic.

So I'm assuming TT is giving back his silver medal from the 2010 Olympics. Someone who has such strong aposing poilitical views probably shouldn't be reprsenting the country.

And you realize that that's the problem with people in America, right? No one really wants to put any effort or time into reading or understanding what key documents mean. Same problem up here in Canada. It's all snap judgements and analysis based on perceptions, not facts. But Americans have the freedom to be wrong, use it however you want.
