Sorry, you're wrong. 13% of your value is a lot of money. - Pomegrant
In the context of sports franchises, baseball teams have operated functionally with much more significant debt.
Once again, im not saying its not a lot of money I'm saying, it's not an amount of money that forces you into a panic mode where your "only option" is to dump your star player.
Like I said, you could erase half the debt by waiving Volchenkov, letting Brodeur walk and not reinvesting the money. Isn't that better than dumping Parise?
Then when you get yourself more even keel, if 2-3 years down the line the revenue has not fluctuated....you consider leveling off your big contracts. Parise, Kovalchuk, etc.... |

NY Post reporting #NJDevils will not be re-signing Parise, as they are set to lose 20 million this season and simply can't afford it #nhl - Holy_GM
Is this one of the FAKE Kypreos accounts that have been going around with trade rumors? It sure looks like it. There's an article about Parise from 3 days ago on the Post but nothing like that. It looks like a fake Twitter, the real one doesn't have the "_" at the end of its name. Good find.. |

All you need to know is that letting go of Parise would be the worst business decision the Devils can make in the face of financial issues. James Vanderbeek and Lou Lamoriello know this, obviously. Paying Parise $7 million a year is merely an investment into what he brings to the franchise. Letting him go just to shed salary doesn't make much sense honestly, it's common sense. It's like if the Sam Adams brewery has some debts to pay, so they stop making the very popular Sam Adams Summer Ale so they can cut costs to pay those debts lol...
This is why most writers that are closer to the Devils franchise have said it's highly unlikely he's going to leave. There. |

Completely agree. There are plenty of places you can cut costs.
Player salaries, team staffing, arena workers (if related), public relations, sales executives, commisions for sales...just to name a few...
Dumping star players and reducing the quality of your product is something you do as a last resort. |

You think Elias or Kovy would get an allstar game invite with Toews out? nah.. HARTNELL IS THE BETTER PLAYER!!! Maybe with OV out????
I know we have 2 rookies in the ROOKIE competition.. but come on. This is dumb.
Its not a big deal to me, I just don't understand it. |

The reason Volchenkov doesn't get much ice time (especially the last game) is the powerplay, which he will never see ice time on. Also, the large ice times for Larsson and Salvador make Volchenkov have less, It's funny because to me, Volchenkov is the best D-man on this team at being a defense man, hes at least has some offense, and really is brilliant in his own end. |

I heard a rumor, don't take much for it though..... If the devils trade Parise they will trade for Hemsky at a low cost to fill the void for a playoff run - Killbot460
Oilers would never do that, because Zach will never sign there. |

I don't ever read the post, it's not reliable....at all. With that said, if you're trying to tell me the Devils don't have any financial issues you're nuts. - Todd.Cordell
No, not nuts, reasnoble. I don't think you understand, if this team was in bad financial trouble, they would have never signed Kovalchuk |

Look at the stats.
Hartnell has like 25 goals and 18 assists. Played real well of late, deserves to be there. |

Logic time!
ASG = League Showcase
Not all teams in league showcased at league showcase.
Ergo, teams not of equal importance. |

Devils are repped by Henrique and Larsson.
You only need a rep in the All-Star weekend.
The only team right now that doesn't have a rep at all is Winnipeg because Buff is hurt. |

Doesn't mean that isn't a terrible rule. The All-star game only has a portion of the players voted in by fans and there are plenty of spots to have every team represented. Quite frankly they should have greater representation for struggling and small market teams to try to increase their fan base but obviously this is about creating short term gains so the big market teams are heavily represented because they will generate the greatest ratings. |

I agree. The NHL is an 8 team league, and it needs to start representing its teams like the NFL. Honestly, each US team should have at least one game on NBC each year. For the small market teams, pair them up with a big market team. Ala Devils/Flyers. NYI/NYR. Florida/Boston. etc. But we know that's never going to happen. |

Well, around this area you find out that all of those fans are the same big market morons of all of these other teams. |
