you take BPA in the depths of a rebuild. once the team core looks established, then you start thinking about drafting positionally.

its why this years draft confuses me.

- GuyLaDouche

Oilers should go for a Forward this coming draft and they will.....

All depends where they slot in. they get a chance for Yak or Grigs they will probably take it. Lower and they will take a dman.

well...Martindale for sure. Haven't heard great things about Jeremy Blaine. Pitlick has been..ok..but defs hasn't really taken a step forward. Bunz I would say has been pretty good.
- GuyLaDouche

Forgot about Martindale, he's a disaster. Blaine missed most of last year with injury I thought. Marincin seems to be adapting well in Regina.

Do you watch games and then pick up the X-Box controller, make one subtle roster move and win and think your a regular genius?

Yes but lest remember Oilers are still rebuilding....bring up the Kids and let them get the experience they need up at the NHL level even if they suck now still a good experience....OKC is good for a year or 2 at the most....is like Smid he suck bad to the point everyone wanted Smid out this team and it took almost 4 years before Smid become a reliable D now....

Enough to field a below average AHL team. If 2 of those guys turn into top 4 defensemen we'll be lucky.

Rebuilding doesn't mean throwing ill prepared 18 year olds into the NHL mix where they don't develop properly. Again, your X-Box time is skewing your reality.

Not necessarily...if they miss out on scoring chances because they can't adjust to the NHL speed, or realize that their fall-back scoring strategies that work in junior won't work in the NHL, that could be a good experience.

If they come into the league 20 pounds underweight and are sent out to get killed by bigger, stronger, faster and smarter NHLers, they have no chance to improve. Plus, not every rookie is going to have the fire of Taylor Hall. Most kids that get sent out to the slaughter aren't going to have the confidence to succeed, and once they do, they're going to resent the organization for treating them that way.

Signing him to a 4 year extension doesn't mean they can't fire him next season if the pieces aren't starting to fall into place.
- kingbrehm

Honestly you don't give a guy a 4 year extension and then fire him next year. Extension should be at most 2 years.
