One could even argue that the scouting is sub par at that. Drafting the top ranked player first over all every year should be automatic, hell even I could do that. But are you actually drafting the best player for the teams specific needs? How many years in a row can the same team pick first over all and still remain the worst team in the league?

It's going to be great when all these first picks have to be re-signed.

- Sensir

Eberle was picked 22nd overall. Id say that was a pretty good call. After that, the rest of the draft picks have to be determined. Guys like Marincin, Musil and Klefbom are looking pretty promising. Hartikainen was a 6th rounder. Until some of these draftees have had a shot, you really dont have any call to say its sub-par. Chicago didnt get immediately good after drafting Kane and Toews. Ditto Pitt and Cros.
if it wasn't for Anderson, you guys wouldn't be anywhere near where you are. So shut up.

It must be really hard for the oilers scouts to pick a top talent at 1st overall? Anyone could pick RNH and Hall at 1st overall, I don't know why you are saying the Oilers have good scouts. Besides, Hall or Seguin? Don't think Hall is better than Seguin now, or in the future. All-star on a cup winning team, while Hall is playing average on a last place team for the 2nd year in a row.
- Allstarzz

Give Hall the same amount of games as Seguin this year and they're right on par, and Seguin plays for a much better team. A trolls silly argument if I've ever heard it.

"In a few years, this team will be unstoppable thanks to scouting."

I would wait and see how many of those prospects actually pan out before I would start making claims about an unstoppable team.

I remember a few years ago when hockey's future rated Montreal's prospect pool as #1 and the Bulldogs were fresh off a Calder Cup led by several of their top prospects. The habs fans were sure they would win a cup by 2010, ask them how that worked out.

Concur. Boner gets excited,

The prospect pool looks good though. Im not worried about our scouting. Its the developmental end of things that concerns me.

Injurys are the reason we suck so bad.Our roster healthy isn't that bad. Renney mabey could be improved on but injurys are our problem again this year.

I'm not buying the injury bug anymore..... Pens and Flyers have injuries, and they are a lot better than the oilers

Agreed, for the most part, outside of Hall the 2010 class has taken a step back.

Depth is the reason we suck so bad. Good teams have good players to fall back on when top players go down.

Scouting is tough, I mean which team would take Alexandre Daigle over Chris Pronger.
- Ben37

The same team that would take Brian Lee over Anze Kopitar, but we're not talking Ottawa here.

With the Daigle comment you just backed up my earlier point. It should be easy, but it's obviously not. So maybe just picking the consensus number one isn't always for the best.

Maybe Pitlick hasnt been impressive, but Marincin, Bunz, Blain, and Davidson I wouldn't exactly call them stepping back.

well...Martindale for sure. Haven't heard great things about Jeremy Blaine. Pitlick has been..ok..but defs hasn't really taken a step forward. Bunz I would say has been pretty good.

you take BPA in the depths of a rebuild. once the team core looks established, then you start thinking about drafting positionally.

its why this years draft confuses me.
