face it, there are some blatant apologists here. I understand the ire against those rooting against one tender vs another and that makes no sense to me. I just don't get the slack so many are in a rush to give to the recurring theme of 3 goals/gm, .895 sv % and at least 1 soft goal in ~80% of his gms. I'm rooting for bryz to succeed, be we have to keep it real.

I have yet to see anyone say that Bryzgalov is blameless for his plight.

The "apologists" seem to be emboldened by the sheer stupidity of "fans" openly rooting for one teammate over another. I see idiots shredding Bryzgalov over his personality, ripping him for being a media whore and for being more interested in being on TV than stopping pucks. Hell, there's people that seem to take glee in Bryzgalov's struggles.

I defend Bryzgalov, and believe that he will recover and play much better, because he has a track record that says he can. But I also realize that he's not playing well and that is causing his poor numbers as much as bad luck and breakdowns.

Again, I have yet to see anyone apologize for Bryzgalov that doesn't admit that his play has been subpar.

Well the 49ers pass rush knocked the hell out of him the entire second half. He was frustrated he had no time to throw the football.

Not having Ted Ginn hurt the 49ers big time, the ball/puck has a habit of finding guys at the worst moment.

Think about the absurdity of this truthful comment.

Ted....Ginn...

Kyle Williams is now San Francisco's version of Bill Buckner. That is just an opinion, ggunky can feel free to disagree if he wants. I will gladly change my mind if he says so because he is the arbiter.

not sure how long rinaldo is out for...i think he's day to day...but i wonder if sestito gets a long look here, even when rinaldo comes back. i'd love to see a line with both of them and harry z.

really liked sestito's game yesterday. i didn't notice the particular hit on horton that apparently knocked him out of the game - i've heard concussion, not sure that's confirmed - because he was hitting everything in black/gold. flyers could use the size and physicality.

Funny how home teams in the playoffs are 8-2, and the two losses were by the # 1, and # 2 seeds in the NFC.

In my opinion Sestito has made a good account of himself on every callup so far. I like his edge, and it seems like he can play a bit.

Just an opinion though.

Ahhh, spin. I never said you were wrong.

My point is you have an opinion just like I do.

You want to say that quality saves are fact but a soft goal isn't.

This argument is stupid.

My point is nothing more then Bryz can be better.

He was signed to be the answer. Sorry for wanting Bryz to be better then he has been.

I have nio issues with Bryz or Bob. I have no agenda.

I would love for nothing more then Bryz to be the guy and hold the cup above his head wearing the O&B.

I don't see anything wrong with calling a goal soft.

I don't see anything wrong with saying he made many quality saves.

i didn't realize that it was the same player who got in the way of the punt until after the fumble. my immediate thought while watching him wait for the ball was just to go down and not try to make a play. he was a bit careless with the ball - particularly in that situation.

There are no blatant apologists here. We all know Bryz needs to improve his game. But we also can see that he has also been the victim of an inordinate amount of defensive breakdowns, for such a quality team, and an inordinate amount of deflection and bad luck goals. We would all like to see him make some of those saves because that is what a goalie with his kind of contract is supposed to do.

Stating otherwise in disingenuous.

You cant have one without acknowledging the other no matter which side you are on.

- MBFlyerfan

I don't view bryz as a victim in any sense of the word...I think that would be...disingenuous

he just has to play better and I'm hoping he will.

He tried to make a play, and got stripped. It happens. The first play was the really dumb play, if you have no designs on trying to make a return, get the hell out of the way.

Glad to see you didn't throw Bryz under the bus with the shootout Bill. It's clear that Bryz didn't make the saves he should have during yesterday's contest but in the shootout, Bryz got no help by the shooters on his own team. I think Laviolette needs to make better choices in that area and our shooters have to go in more confident. Our shooters lost it as much as Bryz did. In the game itself, well, that's on Bryz. In the first period we were really screwed over but I felt the Refs kept us in the game in the 3rd.

As Bill pointed out here, and Panotch tweeted during the game, the officials were "over-calling the game." Multiple instances of not being able to find the puck and thus blowing the play dead when the puck was still alive is unacceptable. I understand it does occur from time to time, but the way they were overall yesterday, everything was magnified and those 2 times stick out.

That is a tough choice. I would rather him be in the lineup than Shelly. I think Rinaldo and Sestito bring different things to the table. Rinaldo is more of an agitator/energy guy, where I see Sestito as a sledgehammer.

Someone said it great yesterday, it is comparing a shotgun to a bazooka. But if I HAD to chose between those two, I would take Rinaldo.

Where I would make the Sestito choice is between Sestito and Harry Z. Rotate them depending on the opponent.

I think essentially what Sestito is, is a much bigger version than Rinaldo. He can fight (heavyweights) can skate well, and can agitate.

Spot on, sir. Should he be playing like a $10m goaltender? Absolutely yes. But right now, we're simply looking for steps in the right direction. He had a couple solid wins recently, and was part of a competitive effort yesterday against an overwhelming Boston lineup. If being an apologist means looking at how he'll "get out of the woods" rather than going on about just how far lost he is, I'll accept the apologist label.

Why because of him grimacing? If thats what you are getting at, I noticed that as well... I dont know if it was an actual grimace or more of him just twitching.
- jak521

no...because he's not playing as well as he has in the past. He mentioned a lingering injury earlier in the season. He even pulled himself during a game because of it. Just thought it might be affecting his play. Guy play thru injuries all the time (see JvR) even though it negatively affects their play.

Yesterday especially, Sestito did what I am guessing management thought Shelly would do. And that is make the other team crazy, get under their skin, and back it up whenever someone decided to challenge him. And it is correct, Rinaldo is no match for a heavyweight (not for lack of heart, only size), but Sestito is THE heavyweight out there most nights.

I like that both can play as well.

Didn't play much. 5:30. Didn't really notice him much at all. Which isn't bad, sometimes it's good when you don't notice a call up.
