I must've been mistaken. I thought that the speculation was that JVR got dinged in the Jan 7 ottawa game but didn't get taken out of the lineup until the Jan 14 nashville game. I could swear I have read that somewhere. Which would mean he played 4 games before being deactivated.

here is one suggestion of the hit that did it...

He did play after the Ottawa game, but he didn't experience any symptoms until that taking the skate before last Saturday's game.

Regardless it is scary...Gagne is still out with his concussion issues in LA.

the ice is bad. and the locker rooms were built for hobbits. and sometimes the central light above one of the goals is out. and the bathrooms are pretty gross. and the pro shop has gear from 1997. and they never cut my skates properly. other than that, it's great.

And they are only guessing that is what did it. They don't know because, as Jsaq says, he didn't have symptoms until that Sat a.m. skate.

So Jvr has been suffering from a muscular tear in his abdominal region, a chronic hip injury that could require surgery in the offseason and a brief knee problem. Gee, what a little female dog. That guy should have had 20 goals already before sitting out with a concussion. Get this guy out of here, Luke Schenn would win the Norris with these minor issues.

It's amazing how far they have come in dealing with concussions, and how to diagnose them and treat them. And still have so much that is still unknown.

In another article Holmer says "he took hits to the head in our last two games" so maybe the symptoms did indeed creep up on him. Seems like those are the worst kind...see Pronger, Chris. I hope JVR gets back 100%.

Absolutely. I'm worried about him and Briere moving forward.

The latter is what frightens me. There are so many unknowns. They're such a difficult condition, even the player who's suffered it may not realize the symptoms. No amount of recovery is assured to yield a fully healed player, either. I consider the Flyers and Giroux very lucky he made a full recovery without incident, let alone as quickly as he did.

I'd skate on baldes right out of the box before allowing them to sharpen my skates. ok bit over the top but you get what I mean. Honestly I will only allow once place to sharpen mine. I hated playing there. Doesn't surprise me one bit about the air quality.

I agree. I mean even the team sometimes is trying to figure out what hit caused the concussion, in the case of JVR and Briere. You can sustain a hit, causing a concussion, and either not be aware of it due to the concussion, or have the symptoms be delayed in occurring. All the while continuing to play, and possibly making the situation worse.

Let's not overact everyone, let's just a few days and see how Briere is feeling. What's the exact status of JvR himself? I know he's out indefinitely but how is the player feeling? Last I was told, he's skating. Skating is always a good step.

What I would like to know is if he's had more good days then bad recently. Not that I'm rushing JvR back but when I heard he was skating, I thought maybe after the All-Star break was possible.

He took 3 huge hits in the Devils game. 2 by Volchenkov, one by Fayne. And it probably didn't help matters that he got punched in the face by Elias when he was already concussed.

He is traveling to Florida, so perhaps it's a sign he is feeling better. I doubt he would make the 3 hour flight if he was feeling terribly.

Being on the plane ride alone is a good sign, so maybe it isn't that bad but we'll have to stay tuned. Although it doesn't make a lot of sense for him to go with the All-Star break right after the game.

No fine or suspension for Zbynek Michalek for his hit on Washington's Matt Hendricks on Sunday.

Concussions have no timetable. He could be back after the all-star break, or he could be out for the year. Who knows.

Is this the Dads' trip? Or a team bonding after the FL game. Seems odd for him to go down for just one game if he won't be playing or practicing. I'd rather have him sleep a lot.

Some relevant news. But if he isn't playing, why fly down, especially with the ASG coming up?

EDIT: I did not read for comprehension

"Briere went because this is final part of the club’s annual fathers/sons trip and he and his dad wanted to enjoy Florida."

Fair enough.

I been out all day, any word on the Sestito hit on Horton warranting a suspension? THey were discussing something about it on NHL channel but I had to hit the road.
