what the (frank) is with these degrees of severity? i've read quotes by head docs saying there is no such thing.
- hammarby31

Someone using the old book. They used to have degrees. And each required a different response with regard to activity and allowing a player to practice/play. That's pretty much out the window these days.

I don't know. Obviously what giroux had was "mild" compared to Crosby or Pronger...but medically speaking, science is only beginning to understand concussions so it is probably better to say either he has one or he doesn't have one and leave it at that. From all I have seen every individual responds differently so it probably doesn't make sense to put a severity descriptor on there.

I fear there is too much uncertainty on forwards health (Briere, Jagr, JVR) at the moment to negotiate from a position of strength.

These injuries are handcuffing Holmer at the worst possible time.

I think that the Flyers need to sit this year out of FA markets unless a small deal to bolster D can be had for cheap.

I completely agree. Picks for a vet like Allen would be fine with me. No 1st rounders with the deep draft this year. Only way I give up a JVR or other forward is if another forward is coming back like a L. Scheen and Kadri for JVR and 2nd.

I was thinking the same thing. Would think they would err on the side of caution being that Rome knocked Horton silly in the SCF. I despise Horton.

Yeah but I bet you wouldn't despise him in Orange & Black. Dude is a big guy and a talented player.

I was thinking yesterday how much I hate Lucic and how much he looked like someone destined to wear O&B.

Honestly, outside of that little scumbag Marchand, I wouldn't mind a lot of the Bruins players, if they wore Orange and Black. I could probably even get over my Chara hate. I've hated that dude since he was a Sen.

Giroux also immediately ceased playing, went off the ice and got symptom free.

Pronger and Crosby played again, and had hits after the initial contact and likely made their issues worse.

Maybe they're handcuffing Homer at the best possible time. This way he might not pay a premium for a solid depth defenseman like Tim Gleason

And Briere. Got to think that they either didn't have any immediate symptom or were not forthcoming to the training staff.

At least Briere didn't play in more games after he got his bell rung. JVR played how many before they shut him down? I don't like that we have not heard more on either player since they were shut down, but that is basically how they handled G so hopefully we'll get good news when the time is right. Glad they have a break in the sched after tomorrow night.

And DannyB, who may have had multiple impacts after the initial injury. No way of knowing really because he was befuddled.

Put him on a line with Cooter and Shelley. The faces alone would be enough to scare opposing teams off the ice

As was discussed yesterday (and someone here shared their experience with playing not realizing he was concussed until a teammate realized he wasn't following simple instructions) a guy may not realized he's hurt BECAUSE of the head injury. And someone with a head injury may suffer impaired judgement as a result. So it's not necessarily blame to place here.

I think everyone watching the WC last year could see Sid was woozy. There is blame to place there on the Pens training or coaching staff.

JvR apparently reported the symptoms as soon as he felt them on Saturday morning at the skate.

But Briere certainly took a hit or three after he initially got his bell rung. I'm worried for both

Yes, they absolutely could have been unaware of any symptoms. Excellent point.

I must've been mistaken. I thought that the speculation was that JVR got dinged in the Jan 7 ottawa game but didn't get taken out of the lineup until the Jan 14 nashville game. I could swear I have read that somewhere. Which would mean he played 4 games before being deactivated.

here is one suggestion of the hit that did it...

the ice is bad. and the locker rooms were built for hobbits. and sometimes the central light above one of the goals is out. and the bathrooms are pretty gross. and the pro shop has gear from 1997. and they never cut my skates properly. other than that, it's great.
