Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas released the following statement Monday evening regarding his absence from the Bruins' visit to the White House this afternoon:

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT"

I don't doubt his integrity ... nor his sincerity. I do doubt his judgment by choosing to use a ceremony that was meant to honor the TEAM and turning it into a little political theater starring himself. Very selfish, in my book. Just stealing the spotlight to prove a point.

In the long run it probably doesn't matter. I doubt it will cause any friction among his team mates, and I'm sure Bruin fans won't care at all as long as he continues to stop the puck. Which he's pretty damn good at, by the way.

if im his teammatehe gains more respect because he is standing up for the american people in my opinion. if he was selfess he would have gone because noone does not want to go to the white house.
lastly the easy path for him would have been to quietly go and not open himself up to the public backlash. he choose doing what he thought was best for americans in his opinion

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed that Thomas had told him months ago he would not attend the White House event due to his political and ideological differences with the Obama administration. Chiarelli said he had tried to convince Thomas to attend the event "over the last couple months" to no avail.

"He chose not to come. The reasons behind it I think he'll make the media aware through his Facebook," said Chiarelli.
