He's not the first to refuse the opportunity either. US Women's Olympic Soccer Coach refused to meet Bush several years ago, Matt Chmura refused to meet Clinton (for different reasons). You're entitled to your opinion and I respect that but so am I and so is Thomas, he's choosing to exercise that right on a bigger stage and I respect him for having the conviction of his beliefs.

Which was probably viewed acceptable as Bush was the worst thing that happened to us...next to his father. I love the double standard and even cuter is the accusations of racism.

in other real news, I guess Horton has another concussion. 2 in less than a year. not good.
- 77emac77

Yeah that is not good. Hope it doesn't turn into a career threatening problem for him down the line, less importantly if he's out for a while they would have to consider making a move to at least add someone who could play 3rd line as I'm assuming the RW's would move up a spot.

The funny part is that Thomas probably would have gladly met Bush. Both Obama and Bush have been poor presidents, but at least Obama didn't drag us into two pointless wars.

You know it's a slow day in sports when people are talking about a guy not attending a political event. It's his choice. Who cares?

Seriously people, STFU.

Not a political event, seriously? Any invite to the White House is political.

He had the right not to attend if it goes against his own values. It's nice for the players who want to attend but I definatly understand Thomas' point of view.

my point was that by not showing up Thomas made it into a waaaaay more of a political event than it would have been otherwise.

I understand his point of view as well. I just thought it pretty damn selfish to turn a team oriented event into a personal political statement.

I know but I always thought wins are the first thing into consideration then if you are tied they go to head to head
- Bruins93089

It is. It's been the first tie breaker since last year.

On NHL.com, they're is a row called ROW (reg/overtime win).

He's a Republican.

Americans are so stupid, this 2 party system is a joke that only dumb people would follow along with.

- Scooby_Doo

Yeah, well some are...actually, they're just f**knuts. I'm figuring there should be at least four; two groups of loony tunes, one on the center-left, and one on the center-right that would take up a whole bunch of Republicans AND Democrats, and would probably win most of the elections. The one thing I give the Dems is that at least they tell their far left "base" to crawl back into their holes, once elected, and govern in the middle, where most of us are situated.

The Republicans let the very dumbest of their dumb rednecks call the shots, and then they compound the problem with their "supply-side" economic disaster (yeah, I know, it's Obama's fault..whatever). ...which is why any time one of them is elected I have to hope I don't need to be scared....or at the very least embarrassed, as I was for eight years prior to Obama being elected. The guy's not perfect, for sure, but he's not a freaking dope, either. He's got 99 problems, but (at least) English ain't one (thank God)...LOL...

Just take out the extra point, period. It's dumb. The league likes the idea of creating a wild chase for the few remaining playoffs spots which isn't a crazy idea but IMO a loss should be a loss.

I'm not a big fan of the three point regulation system either like International tournaments.

I'll agree- if you lose in the overtime, it should be a loss. However, I'm not up for the all-star skills competition deciding a 2 point swing...so 2 versus 1 there for a win would be fine, IMO. As far as I'm concerned, have it be a tie after overtime, and have the skills competition for giggles...

Anyone who thinks that the people in the white house make things better or worse for people cant read and believe what they watch on cnn, fox and nbc. He is just cattle like anyone else who believes in politics. Oil companys and Massive corporations make the decisions, that fool timmy needs to go protest them if he cares lol instead of trying to pretend he understands grownup stuff.

Holy this just made my day, I was having a bad one and this just made me laugh for about 30 seconds straight

No points for an OT loss. One point for a shoot out win.

Thomas's Statement:

Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas released the following statement Monday evening regarding his absence from the Bruins' visit to the White House this afternoon:

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People.

This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers vision for the Federal government.

Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.

This is the only public statement I will be making on this topic. TT"
