Look at Kovalchuk. Signs the huge contract, starts the season with a mountain of hype and expectations. Its sinks him and starts a downward sprial. Hes getting crushed by the fans, media and we're enjoying the hell out of it. He cant do anything right( remember the flubbed shoot out attempt?). But things start to turn for him. More small positive steps than WFT's. The Devils start to play better then get scorching hot with kovalchuk leading the way. This season, he's playing pretty f'in good.......Bryz will be fine.

My overall sense based on no hard research is that there aren't tons of big UFA signings that don't have a drop off year after signing on with a new team.

I'm not exactly trying to make excuses, but by the time these guys are big time UFAs, many have families, etc. that need to be uprooted to go to their new destination. I'm sure for the first year there's a lot of distractions and what not that come from that sort of stuff.

Regardless of what his numbers in the regular season turn out to be, no one will care if he puts up big playoff numbers. Gotta hope he gets rounded into the form he's displayed in the past. As some are saying, there's some progress being made, and that's better than nothing.

In a way its a chicken/egg argument. He needs to play to get in to form, but he needs to get in to form to keep playing.

Personally I think he will be fine as this team cleans up its breakdowns. And as that happens, and the breakdowns lessen, it will seem like he is making up for more of them when they do happen. In reality it will probably be the same amount of times he does it now.

Look at it this way, if the Flyers have 10 egregious breakdowns and Bryz bails them out of 3, it looks horrible. But if they have 5 egregious breakdowns and he bails them out of 3, all of the sudden he looks great.

Clean up the defensive game, and everything else will follow.

I disagree. Kovie sucks and is hampering their ability to sign Parise. Bad move on the devils part.

there is a track record for FAs having lousy 1st yrs and recovering. this yr just might be like that for bryz. considering all of the youth we have, maybe it's better to transition the rest of our roster carefully, avoiding the overpmt for a vet that won't be w/ us going forward...hang on to top 2 draft picks too.

The inconsistent team D certainly makes it more difficult for him to become somewhat consistent himself. And even if Bryz has an entire tough year this season, again as others have pointed out, I think coming back next year he'll be more comfortable with everyone right out of the gates and everyone will be more comfortable with him and things will be good.

Just finished watching the game on DVR.

I'm proud to be a Flyers fan today, regardless of the outcome.

8 rookies, heck of a battle all game.

Sestito made a good argument to stay in the line up today I think.

Pretty cool that Hartnell's dad was there in person to see that.
