With the endless goalie carousel, has anyone ever thought of canning Mr. Reese?

I am in no means blaming the goalie coach. That would be ridiculous...just opening a can of worms here.

Honestly, I've never really seen anyone talk about it. What's the consensus?

3 goals/gm, .895 sv %...nowhere to run from those numbers. he simply has to outperform them going forward and I'll be rooting for that.

I'm sorry I didn't realize we were talking about his performance all season. I have been talking about today. Today he played well enough with a benchful of ahl callups to get the game past overtime. His counterpart in the opposite end who is considered the best, didn't do any better. His predecessors were unable to keep the game close in similar situation.

Reese was good last year with what he did with the crap he had to deal with over the last few seasons.

Reese cant control deflections or defensive breakdowns.

edit: I will also add that there has been a marked improvement in Bob since last season, especially in puck handling. Reese is doing a good job.

I do think Bryzgalov could be better in his butterfly at times and that's where a coach comes in. I expect an improved Bryzgalov after the all farce break. If not then I think taking a look at the coaching in the offseason is worthwhile.

Reese has done very good work with what he has had to work with during his time as the Flyers goalie coach.

He nurtured a Russian guy, who nobody thought could win in the playoffs into a Stanley Cup champion in Nikolai Khabibulin. Bryzgalov has to make the adjustments himself.

I think you've been overly sanguine in your outlook w/ him since youve been posting here...much more slack than he deserved. I'm rooting for him too, but I got to call it as I see it and those #'s flat out suck.

I think part of the reason that the Flyers targeted Bryzgalov was the work Reese has done in the past.

Now Bryzgalov has to get his game fixed. He's taking strides, still has more work to do.

They do suck but its not all on him either. he's had a team playing carelessly in their own zone for most of the season. I don't think it was the case today, but then again we're not talking about today now we're talking about the season.

He has to be better.

Bryzgalov has had the worst combination of luck, shaky play and his own mistakes I can remember a goalie having.

I think a lot of it snowballed on him and he's got to get himself mentally back. The mistakes he's making are fixable, but he's got to shut out the bad luck and stay confident and battle.

Bob is universally better with his puck management. I think we'll see him in there on tueday. Dangerous game for the flyers coming off this weekend

I'd go right back to Bryzgalov. Let him get as much work prior to the break as he can, then let him use the time off to work on things and come back ready to kick ass down the stretch

The break cant come at a better time for him.

He hasn't lived up to expectations and definitely needs to play better. Yet this team is still in a solid playoff position playing 8 rookies.

I think many of his issues get better with team defense getting better and visa versa.

The above statement is an example of a reasonable criticism.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bob, but coming in and out of the break with crunch time looming, you HAVE to go back to Bryz.

Look at Kovalchuk. Signs the huge contract, starts the season with a mountain of hype and expectations. Its sinks him and starts a downward sprial. Hes getting crushed by the fans, media and we're enjoying the hell out of it. He cant do anything right( remember the flubbed shoot out attempt?). But things start to turn for him. More small positive steps than WFT's. The Devils start to play better then get scorching hot with kovalchuk leading the way. This season, he's playing pretty f'in good.......Bryz will be fine.

i got into a fight last year with a flyers fan over jvr. he was just poopting all over him the whole game - i finally had had enough and told him to shut the (frank) up. i was wearing a winter classic lindbergh and the guy starts on my jersey, saying i'm not a real fan and probably just got the jersey or something. he turns around and shows me his mel bridgeman #10 and says i probably don't know who that is. i proceed to pummel him with information. i moved my seat for the 3rd period. jvr scored in the 3rd. the whole section stood up and heckled the bumhole.

the whole thing was pathetic.

My overall sense based on no hard research is that there aren't tons of big UFA signings that don't have a drop off year after signing on with a new team.

I'm not exactly trying to make excuses, but by the time these guys are big time UFAs, many have families, etc. that need to be uprooted to go to their new destination. I'm sure for the first year there's a lot of distractions and what not that come from that sort of stuff.

Regardless of what his numbers in the regular season turn out to be, no one will care if he puts up big playoff numbers. Gotta hope he gets rounded into the form he's displayed in the past. As some are saying, there's some progress being made, and that's better than nothing.
