It just means that prudence must rule the day. If there's less than 90% certainty that Briere or JvR or even Jagr can return at full strength, then dealing that forward depth away, especially NHL level roster depth, would be reckless.

Even trading a chip such as Zolnierczyk, if they're missing JvR & Briere, means that they have to rely on Rinaldo, Shelley, Wellwood, Holmstrom and Sestito to make up the 4th line.

And what happens when Jagr's groin meets bad ice? Then Talbot or Schenn must slide into the top 6, and one of those 5 I mentioned is now in the top 9. On top of that, as promising as Read, Couturier and Schenn have been, and continue to be, they are rookies.

If, and it's a huge if, Bob is traded, they'd almost certainly have to try and get a back-up in the deal, or in a subsequent deal. I'd expect them to try and slip Leighton through recall waivers BEFORE any trade involving Bobrovsky...although I doubt he'd be in play(Bob I mean-recalling Leighton is a roll of the dice).
