And we have an 09 Cup due to it. Ask the Hawks how they feel about tanking too. Both teams have a core to win around for 10 years, it's a new NHL now, gotta go down to win later. - walshy66

I forgot the superstars that were hand picked for them specifically as their team was going to fold or move, and how those citys magically got that building in place for them. How many indictments over that building again? I mean a ball park figure will do. - shinebox
Yes... hand picked.... Traded up for Fleury, lost the Ovechkin lottery and got Malkin, and won the Crosby ball lottery (that a rep from each team was present for). Sounds like it was all rigged to me.
This league can't get anything right, but they can master a grand conspiracy to help Pittsburgh, and no one ever finds out?

It's apparently a better strategy to consistantly make bad personnel decisions, keep putting band aids on your roster every off season, and have mediocre records and draft picks in the 20's every season. |

I guess having the ability to get the best players from Quebec completely uncontested for decades is a more valid strategy. |

I was exaggerating a bit, but did or did not the Canadiens have exclusive rights to draft players born within a 50 mile radius of Montreal in the 60's, and have an extensive network of Junior teams in Quebec that acted as a talent funnel to their franchise? |

first bolded comment: the only player they got from this that played in the NHL was Rejean Houle I think.
second bolded comment: Habs were the first team to use the "Farm team" system, which was Frank Selke's idea. It was then used by the other teams and led to what we know today.
Even if that whole french players thing was true...there were six teams back then, you would think that of all the players available it wouldn't make a world of difference if the Habs had the right to the first pick among Quebec players. |

You missed Marc Tardif
Pretty sure teams had claim to players within 50 miles of their arena as well (before the draft). Not sure about you, but I am betting a lot more good players are from within 50 miles of Montreal than say Boston |

I get on a plane and come home to a guy who's entire insult/argument is that the Penguin's are good because they got high draft picks, then in the next comment says he wants to fail for Nail. FOR 4 PAGES!
Oh and Gomez has 0 goals this year. Glad to see they put him out in the shootout with the game on his stick. Solid coaching, 7+ mill just doesn't go as far as it used to. Neal makes about a 1/3 of what Goldmez makes, glad we grabbed him with one of those #1's
Never saw the slew and didn't see it in the hilights, anyone care to post it? |

If you've seen one PK slewfoot you've seen them all. Kunitz looked like he (should've) got hurt but surprisingly he jumped back up. He's just a dirty player. - nhindian
Kunitz is a machine. Also about half the cost of the Alaskan Assassin. |

Cooke has done some dirty crap in the past, but he was suspended quite heavily and now players can get away with murder on him without getting called based on his reputation. Cooke also has made a visible effort to change his game. Subban however is another story. Sure he will wise up in whatever year he matures, but until then, he's just another dirty player |

You should have seen all the grief I got when I called PK Slew-Foot a dirty player in the Montreal forum....most of it started with...

Can't even describe how much letang improves that team. When he broke up that scoring chance when we were on the power play I couldn't believe it. It must be painful to the rest of the league that we lose the best player in the world and we replace him with?? Oh yeah the best player in the world. next up the craps. Lgp!! |
