Hockey Prospectus had the Hawks prospects ranked 5 and STL at 21 this past July.

Burish, Brouwer, Buff and Hammer were all picked after the 4th round and they helped contribute the Cup team. Shaw, Kruger and Smith are all 5th rd picks and contributing to the Hawks now. After winning the Cup and being forced to purge the team, the Hawks have acquired alot of picks in the top 90 of the last few drafts which has re-stocked the pipeline therefore strengthening what was a pretty dry system after those mentioned above were called up to the big show. The system is more stocked now then it's been in years for the Blackhawks.

While they may not have any home run hitters right now it's pretty evident that their system is pretty damn deep.

hockeysfuture has St. Louis ranked ahead of Chicago. I believe it was hockey prospectus that rated Dylan Olsen as a 5th defenseman in the league— he's the Hawks best d prospect!

So what's your point?

You want to get into a qualitative comparison of two different publications? Doesn't matter. They have no high-end, elite prospects. You admit that.

Mine is, and has been, there should be few untouchables. Further you make my point for me because the pool is fairly deep in decent prospects. I've said that often. But you deal from strength.

Enjoy your love affair with Jeremy Morin. I want to see the Hawks win a Cup this year, in case you hadn't noticed, no one is going to just give it to them and there are a couple of holes in the roster. Think someone is going to give the Hawks value in this market for Frolik's contract? So far it hasn't worked. Trust me. So what do you do?

Sorry, don't mean to slam you. But I get so tired of this love affair with all current Hawks and Hawk prospects. When you step back and look at the NHL as a whole, there are obvious strengths and then some areas that aren't so great.

I still don't get your point.

He sure did...here's a trivia question...who were the 5 Hawk skaters on the ice when Kaner scored the winner....Kaner and Soupy are 2..who were the other 3 ?

No cheating

Man you old fogies... I just love watching pitchers standing at the plate and crapping in their pants trying to lay down a bunt. The DH is a good thing.

This old fogie loves the DH, but hates goon fighting. The hockey dinosaurs, who're still living in the 70's & 80's, are like NASCAR fans who love it for the wrecks(which is the majority, BTW). Today's hockey is far more skilled than ever before, as well as faster, and more exciting. I don't really want, or expect fighting to be outlawed, but with the speed, skill, and size of today's players, the risk of injury dictates clean hits that separate the man from the puck, not cheap cross-checks, or boarding. I'd much rather see lots of end-to-end rushes, than neutral zone trap games, which are as boring as National League baseball.

It was Boynton because when they gathered to take the team picture he had just made to the other end of the ice after Kane scored....

John,

That's probably enough White Sox chatter...they could be dreadful this year...ughhh.

- ArlingtonRob

Last year should have been so much better. Will miss Mark (who should murder the NL) but their starting pitching should be decent aside from Peavy. Bullpen and untimely hitting will be an issue again. Oh well. World Series in my lifetime and I was old enough to celebrate accordingly.

The thing about the Hawks prospects is not many project as top line players but a lot project as close to definite NHL players (be it third pairing or 3rd/4th line) which I think is taken for granted.

Anyways, Boynton/Hendry and Sopel were the third pairing the Cup year. They need a little bit better play from the guys up front in terms of keeping the puck and not falling asleep defensively and they could be very very very very very very very very very dangerous and we can start to get excited.

morin is my number one trade prospect
i think he is overrated or overhyped and would trade him for any legitimate nhl player
add his concussions and i say trade now

Yeah all that added stategy involved with actually having to plan our bullpen moves is really dull. Why do AL teams even need a manger? He doesn't really do anything. I will never watch an AL game unil they ban the DH. No credibility.

We've gone way off base.

First off I have no problem parting with prospects and like you want to see the Hawks raise the Cup come June. If dealing some of their better prospects is what it takes them I'm all for it.

My point was earlier was I keep reading on this board that the Hawks system doesn't have much to offer, I disagree. HP had them ranked 5th and HF has them ranked 10th or 11th. They have a deep system and have assets to trade even though we have they don't have that "next big thing" type prospect. That's all I was getting at. I think alot got lost in the discussion. No hard feelings.

I don't think they have the single blue chipper who is going to turn somebody's head— except maybe Saad, but i do think there are different opinions out there on him. Remember, 42 other players were preferred just 6 months ago.

From everything I am hearing this is a seller's market. No one is going to give the Hawks value for "castoff" prospects (like, say, Beach). They will have to step up and yes even to get a Jeff Halpern, give up a guy (or two!) who some might think was a good prospect.

Well, you have something to work toward then.

Actually, thanks for the kind words. I also have the real inside track on the Canucks, even if their fans don't want to admit it.

I don't think you can get a bag of pucks for Beach right now. From everything SB has said he's fine with moving picks/prospects for help. I don't think that's an issue at all. I think the front office knows who they really want to keep and who they want to move as far as prospects go.

Maybe for the Hawks but this could actually boost his value for Anaheim

$3.5 isn't that bad for him, it's not an inflated UFA market value and where he's locked up for 3 years, it may force a team to give Anaheim more than they would have if he were a UFA

Erskine has routinely been a healthy scratch since Hunter came on. Him and Schultz. You guys should take Schultz instead.

I'll take Bickell for either one of them, I guess. Halpern has been pretty solid, but he isn't exactly your physical bottom 6. I'd rather have Bolland.

Ladd (who can forget that overhead replay with #16), Boynton cuz Kaner skated right past him at the far corner after scoring & Sharpie since he was the only other 'Hawks player that knew 100% Kaner scored...

I got four of the five on thrice for the cup clinching goal. Only one I missed was sharp.

Stinks about FB getting a new deal in Anaheim. He would've been a nice fit in Chicago.

Looking at the replay about 1,000 times by now, it seems that everyone on the ice knew it was a goal - especially the Flyers.

Only the refs, benches, fans in the building, and the vast TV audience didn't.
