They threw several combinations at the Isles top line last night, none of which worked.

But generally, I agree with you. The Flyers don't have a center they can rely on to routinely keep other team's top players in check.

I would start using Couturier in that role. Not for an entire game, but mixed in during a game. But I agree they don't have a player that you can put out there for 18-20 minutes a game to check another team's top line. And there's also the issue of teams that have more then one quality line. So the Giroux line is simply going to have to fix it's checking game.

The League has changed. It takes two to have a fight. A guy like Shelley risks putting the team shorthanded if he comes out and intigates a fight. Do you think Shelley isn't fighting by his choice? That he all of a sudden doesn't want to fight?

It's not so much the mental toughness, but his body not being used to the grind of an 82-game NHL schedule. They only play maybe 35 games/season in NCAA? Against much lesser competition.

I understand.. but it seems that NCAA guys come out of college more prepared for that type of season for whatever reason.. look at all the different players who have done it.. I dont know what it is, but to me it just seems that way. Maybe they are more physically mature as well.. that would certainly help.

Does that mean that Shelley is the reason for the team's record in those games? What's frustrating about it? Shelley doesn't hurt the team when he's in the lineup, and he does his job. I prefer Rinaldo, but I have no problems with Shelley in the lineup. Far too much is made of it.

Shelley is irrelevant. As long as the Flyers carry an enforcer he will be on the team. Theres nothing anyone can do about it. He doesnt even get enough ice time to warrant a discussion.

Why would the Flyers trade Voracek to LA for a pick? Wouldn't it be wiser to trade him to Carolina for a pick, or Toronto for Schenn? Why trade Voracek at all? He is playing a good game, and when you trade him you dont open up that much cap space.... Better to just waive Shelly.

We really need to shake up these lines. The opposition is zeroing in on the G line way too much, and its working. They know how to defend them... Take away the drop passes and cross-ice passes and make the puck carrier beat you one-on-one...
