They are DREADFUL defensively, and that might be me being too kind. - Buts16
Dreadful is one word for it and it is starting to resemble last years collapse when our goalies took the wrap for a system that would destroy any goalie in the league. Bryz and Bob are in for a rough second half. I have little confidence Lava can fix things up because he sure could not do anything about it last year. Not trying to be negative but it is what it is and right now I am not a happy camper. |

That one game earned him it.
I kid, that's actually a really good price for him, we'd be lucky to have him for that much. |

Beauchemin off the board. Suter and Weber off the board given Polie's comments. Can we just get Gleason already? |

CANES COUNTRY: Cory Lavalette suggests a potential Tim Gleason for Jakub Voracek swap has history on its side, as the Flyers and Hurricanes have done similar deals in the past. I think the Flyer could land Gleason for less than that. |

True. Like you have said and others does this team have a legit chance to make a run at the cup? I say "No" bc they are too inconsistent at this time. I think it makes more sense to go after a defenseman that wont cost as much and still keep your young guys intact. Wait till the summer and see what is available while also pursuing trade options to upgrade the defense. |

I would like Luke Schenn if Weber is impossible to get. By impossible, I mean not selling the farm or trading 2 current young roster players to get him.
I doubt Weber gets traded during the regular season anyway. You can get whatever you want for him as a RFA in the summer as well. |

I think Suter is the one who is actually going to be available at the right price before the TDL is over. |

They have a legit chance at the Cup as much as anybody. I'm not saying to forget this season at all, just saying not to be in a huge rush to go "all in" right now.
There's far too much future uncertainty to simply go out and trade for Shea Weber, unless the deal is so good that it'd be foolish not to. There's some serious ramifications to making a move.
1. New CBA. Right now, there isn't one. There could be changes coming. Some of the ideas seem like they'd help the Flyers in this regard, others would hurt. Some of the ideas that would be ideal for the Flyers is some sort of NBA style Amnesty Buyout, which would give each team a one time, cap hit free buy out of a contract. Another would be a modification that would allow "Over 35" contracts to be off the cap if the player suffers a career ending injury.
Some that would hurt would be an elimination of the bonus cushion and only allowing part of an injured player's contract to rest on the LTIR.
2. Pronger's status. Even if there's no changes to the CBA, Pronger's status is an issue. If he decides he can return, then his money is on the cap and there goes a lot of proposed LTIR exemption space. If he can't return and is going to be LTIR'd, they still have to carry him in the summer. Now they can spend 10% over the cap in summer, but his nearly $5mm hit will be a factor, as will Walker's $1.7mm hit.
3. Assets. The 2012 draft is a deep one. The Flyers could do a bang up job of restocking the farm, rather than surrender picks for rentals or expensive imports. Also, young players like Schenn, Couturier and Read can get playoff experience this year and be bigger pieces of the puzzle next year.
