good lord, what a (frank)ing poop show tonight, from the drop of the puck until the 51 minute mark, and even then after their goal they couldn't get out of their own way.

only a few guys came to play. bob was one of them.

the top line has been dreadful - at both ends - and it continued again tonight. after they allowed the first goal 32 seconds in, lava should have split them up the rest of the game. he didn't. he didn't use a timeout to try to shake them up. nothing. he mailed it in, too.

briere. zip. meszaros. awful.

i can handle losing with effort, but not that. and of course they ultimately dominate the isles on the shot count, but it's meaningless. couldn't get to a rebound all night, and there a million of them.

I doubt he would. Unless the destination was one that afforded Briere a legit chance to win.

Aside from one standout game this year he has largely looked incompetent. It will be interesting to see if he can step it up in the playoffs again.

if you look into it, Flyers trying to feel the islands up in a homo way would def throw a kink into their plans

Jagr's play since the WC has fell off a cliff. Most likely due to injury.

I think it's more due to injury. Although he hasn't played an 82 game schedule in years. He may hit a wall. That's a distinct possibility.

I'd like the lines to look like this Saturday

Hartnell-Giroux-Harry Z
Talbot-Couturier-Read
Simmonds-Schenn-Voracek
Shelley-Briere-Jagr

shelley brings down the line of harry and couts because he doesn't have the skill or speed. zac can hang with them and they buzz around. it limits their ice time b/c lava's not double shifting someone else with that pair, but he did mix it up and get read and coots together in the 3rd - and they scored of course.

i'm not putting any of this on shelley at all though. that game was just downright (frank)ing pathetic. it's beyond time to split jagr and giroux.

Bingo. Of course Shelley isn't the reason they lost tonight, I don't think anyone is that foolish to suggest he was, but you hit the nail on the head, he doesn't have the skating ability or the skill to keep up with the NHL game at this stage of his career. At least throw a kid like Wellwood on the 4th line with Couturier and Harry Z.

On the Kings and Flyers...

These teams have had plenty of discussions this year since the Richards/Schenn, Simmonds deal this summer. There is a growing sense of urgency in LA and the Kings are looking for offensive help from the offensively deep Flyers. I have heard Voracek's name mentioned. The. flyers are looking for picks and space from the Kings, because the Kings don't have the defender the Flyers are in dire need of.

i'm not one to get involved in the never-ending shelley dialogue here, but i found it amusing that the camera panned immediately to shelley on the bench at the end of the giroux fight - at least at the game - not sure if it was that way on tv.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Holmgren is going to make a trade that doesn't make much sense in the not so distant future.

I had the Islanders feed, so that didn't happen. Giroux looks lost at the moment.

he's never made a big splash at the deadline, unless you count moving forsberg, so i'm leaning toward him staying that course. this doesn't mean that he won't do something else that's not very popular though. i think he's up to something.

Turris with 13 points in 16 games in Ottawa. Playing extremely well.

he is lost right now. turnovers galore, not shooting the puck, losing his check in the d zone. just trying to do it by himself and making bad decisions.

He has primary custody but shares custody of the boys with his wife. It would be a tough sell for him to waive.

I'm not on board with him trading a top 9 forward for some kind of rental. That makes zero sense. I'm not as high on L. Schenn as others are. If Beauchemin, Gill, or Gleason can be obtained reasonably I would be interested.

Couturier has performed so well, I wouldn't be opposed to adding a forward who can put the puck in the net to play on the 4th line with him.
