You mean play defense first Hockey and turn puck over and go the other way? Most good teams have that as part of their strategy. I don't know how many times I see two Flyers skate aggressively in on the forecheck, with no chance to get the puck. And one pass beats them and their caught.

I certainly don't want to see them turn into Tampa, but that stuff can work for a reason and as you say, works for a lot of teams.

Nabokov has been playing like he did with the Sharks. Who woulda thunk!?!?!

Stating theoretically that someone who was not involved at all in tonight's game (and for all I know could be in China, that's why it was hypothetical) would have made no difference in its outcome... is not giving facts.

I was also just kind of wondering if anyone knew anything else about Sestito's present situation, and maybe hoping to hear from someone other than Jody Shelley's director of public relations.

It's also a product of using forwards on the point of the PP.

Terrible. That is coaching in my opinion. Have to do a better job of putting your players in a position to be successful.

No definitely not Tampa. I was thinking more along the lines of Boston, NY Rangers, St' Louis Blues.

I think Sestito recently finished serving out his suspension. I would like to see him back in the lineup. He played very well in the three games he was in Philadelphia. He skates very well for a big man, he can agitate, and fight. He's almost like a bigger version of Rinaldo.

Do you think they are playing Laviolette's system correctly and the system just leads to these kinds of games on occasion or do you think the players aren't executing properly what Lava is selling? I honestly have no idea.

It is coaching. But it also is a product of not having Pronger there with his huge shot and QB ability on the PP. Meszaros and Timonen should be the first d PP pairing.

Take it for what it's worth and I know most of you don't think a lot, but Incarcerated Bob just tweeted that Maple Leafs are telling Homer that it's Schenn for JVR and Read. I'd tell Burke to (frank) off!

Flyers should throw Giroux in just to make sure it's enough to seal the deal.

Holmgren wouldn't make that deal

Not having Pronger hurts no question about it. That doesnt mean you have to panic and move forwards to the point on the PP. They have defenseman who can play there, I rather not score on the PP with those guys then keep giving up shorthanded goals or breakaways.

They definitely aren't playing Laviolette's system correctly. It's not my favorite style of play. But it's like any system, play it well and it works. This team just doesn't seem to be able to play well as a team defensively. So maybe some adjustments need to be made there to force them into a more defensive posture. I don't know.

Thanks man, didn't know about the suspension. That's kind of the impression I got of him, too. I'm sure he can't score for crap, but I guess if he did he'd be Milan Lucic and not a guy the Jackets gave up on. I think maybe someone like that would be good for the lineup presently, though, regardless of offense. And the fact that he is a lot bigger than Zac would be helpful, too. I mostly just don't want the team to ragdolled by Boston next time. Or the Rangers, for that matter.

Absolutely. Meszaros has a hard shot, it's not ideal because it isn't accurate, but it's the best option right now, Kimmo is a solid PP guy, he racks up a ton off assists. Playing Carle on the PP is a waste; that limp noodle shot of his is blocked a good amount of the time. Carle has played well this year, but playing on the PP isn't one of his strengths.

He did mention tonight that the players are too far apart/gaps too big, so I guess that leads itself to the conclusion that they aren't exactly doing what he wants. I agree that adjustments should be made to reel them in a bit. They certainly have lots of guys with speed and good sticks to force turnovers and counter

I'm just putting out there a rumor that is on twitter. Don't be mad at me as I personally think Homer should be fired if he made that deal.

His passing/handling of the puck is good though. If the use someone else as the primary point trigger I think he's alright back there.

There's more to playing on the PP at the point then having a big shot. We've seen that with JVR. Carle needs to improve his playmaking there. But playing him on the PP is certainly not a waste.

I don't think Sestito would provide much offense, but at least he can skate and can keep up with play. Having the Geico caveman on the 4th line with Couturier and Harry Z is just ridiculous on every level.
