Well, that's the thing, Nashville isn't going to give him away. If they are forced to trade him, expect about 29 teams to be interested.

There are other defenseman that can be had without giving away all your top picks and future talent.

The guy I had in mind was Sestito, but I don't really keep up with the Phantoms, so for all I know he could be injured or just playing horribly. The only game I saw him play this year was against Dallas (I'm pretty sure), and he was pretty much beating the crap out of everyone on the forecheck. I don't remember if he fought, but I also don't care about that. I think someone who plays that style (consistently) is something that could really help this team right now.
- Hulk Stroganoff

Sestito wouldn't have made a difference, and he would of barely played in tonight's game.

You know, all of this stuff was supposed to be taken care of by Coaching changes. Trading the bad eggs in the room, etc. It still happens.
- MJL

They got off to a better start than I thought they would. It's the dog days of the season and the ASG is coming up, but those stats I posted earlier are cause for concern imo. Real cause for concern.

I know what it is but when the Flyers play like poop, I don't think Peter Laviolette is walking into the dressing room and ripping into Jody Shelley. Take one game at a time. Complain about the task at hand, until the next task.

Personally, I'm pissed because Giroux doesn't want to collect points anymore. He'll have his chances to put the puck in the net but then he'll pass the puck away.

I'm pissed because the Flyers show little interest in defending or playing smart as a team.

I could careless of Jody Shelley sits on the bench for the entire 60 minutes.

- Schenn2shine

I think most of us are pissed. And if Laviolette ripped into Shelley after this game, he shouldn't be the coach.

I don't think anyone actually thinks that Jody Shelley dressing or not was the difference in the game tonight.

I'm still trying to find a post where someone even brought up Shelley being the cause of them losing...

I agree wholeheartedly and would actively be trying to add one. I've been mentioning four or five names since Pronger was originally hurt.

It is hard for the forwards when the defensemen turn it over. Conversely, when the forwards make a dumb cross ice pass into the teeth of the opponents transition game it's even harder for the defensemen to handle it, because the opposing team is now coming full speed from the red line in.
- Jsaquella

Twice that happened with Timonen. One that led to the shorthanded goal. And then on the 4 on 4 when he was forced to take a penalty as he was the only guy back. Everyone else went for a skate. Laviolette spoke of leaving guys vulnerable in the post game presser. Left the most vulnerable tonight was Bobrovsky.

I think the defense needs a little bit of a shakeup...

Shelley is irrelevant at this point. He isnt winning or losing games for the Flyers. Im more concerned that this team keeps making the same mistakes over and over. The defense, forwards included, have done a poopty job of late. Adjustments need to be made. Start giving more minutes to players who are earning it.

The 4 on 4, where he had to take the penalty, I don't know if it rolled on him or what, but Tavares was all over it.

Oh man... we've all been screaming for this for a while.. accountability! If a player plays great he should get more playing time...

Lava has his favorites i think.. and just goes back to them no matter what... i'm not sure...

With that said.. i like Lava as a coach.

I feel kind of dirty for wanting the Flyers to start sitting back a bit and using their speed to play a more counterattack type of style....

He's turning into a great player. There's no support there for Timonen. He was left on his own.

you know it's a rough night when even kimmo is fighting the puck. hopefully they come out and kick the devs' tail.

That's certainly one opinion (emphasis there), and you are entitled to it. The point is that if there is someone available who - even in very limited ice time - could contribute something more (be it physicality, defensive presence, whatever) to the team, then why is that person not playing? And neither of us know for sure the reasoning here, so let's not play pretend.

You mean play defense first Hockey and turn puck over and go the other way? Most good teams have that as part of their strategy. I don't know how many times I see two Flyers skate aggressively in on the forecheck, with no chance to get the puck. And one pass beats them and their caught.

Tonight's game is a product of having two games on the weekend against chief rivals. The Flyers have totally dominated the Islanders for the better part of 4 years, they got caught looking ahead. Sure it was a miserable effort, and it sucks to see such a lack of compete, but this happens to every team in all sports. So while disappointing, there is certainly an explanation for tonight's debacle.

If there is a lack of effort this weekend, it would be far more troubling then what we saw tonight.

The Isles deserve some credit, too.

Within their last 6 games, they have beaten Detroit(5-1), Washington(3-0) and the Flyers pretty handily

Hell i'd even love to see the Flyers play a defense first system...

If for the only reason to piss the players off. If they aren't gonna work harder in their own zone then the other team.. then they get to work at it all game every game.

On a side note.. why the hell are anitbiotics so frigging big?
