Briere having 19 minutes of ice time is a joke considering how he's playing.

It all starts defensively, and with taking care of the puck. Horrendous tonight. In fact laughable. I can't explain this, but some changes need to be made.

There's almost zero cohesion at times. It's staggering how bad the fundamentals look at times with this team.

How do you get consistant? Cause thats what is lacking.

Joe, if there was a Matt Read down there, we would've seen him already. At best there are some 4th line players there. And if Shelley doesn't play, I like the 4th line of Rinaldo, Couturier, and Harry Z. And if JVR is back, then one of Rinaldo or harry Z is going to be scratched along with Shelley. So I don't see a point in bringing up a Phantom.

Ok If you say so.

I think if they traded for a Weber you have to look past this year. That kind of deal is for the future and to have a number one guy in his prime with a young talented team.
- stveshdy

Then do it in the summer when you can sit back an evaluate things without the sting of a loss like this one in your mouth, and you're not trying to tap dance with the cap ceiling. You also have a better read on Pronger's status.

If they trade for Weber before the TDL, it sends a signal that they're going Stanley Cup or bust.

Then this poop happens:

The Saints are set hire ex-Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator.

Bad day all around.

I think it says we added Weber to help us make a run for the cup this year. When the Flyers sign him, its says were going to do whatever it takes to win one.

I'm upset, but looking at the bright side. Rangers and De ils also both lost. This could certainly be a huge wake up call. Flyers have looked as though they feel they can just show up and beat the Isles... not acceptable. Bob was exceptional and feel for him on the 3rd goal. Danny B is really fighting it. Jagr cant just show up for the 3rd. Forward on the point during the PP is hurting bad. Coburn has regressed more than anyone on the team... Carle gets killed on here and Coby is easily the most lost and timid 6-5 player I've ever seen. It's one loss in a season the Flyers will def make the playoffs... the team is young and learning. Montreal still sucks and is in last place.
- Flyers1218

Coby had a rough game. Jagr saying he wants to stick around next year? Start showing it buddy. Where was that backcheck from earlier in the season? You have a grimpy groin? Someone else thats hungrier can step in next year. Geez not even a JVR to point a finger at tonight. I know its January and its the islanders but god what a poor effort tonight

That's where the coaching staff has to take a long hard look at what is happening and consider line changes and shaking things up. Outside of doing extensive work on the fundamentals, and looking at punishing repeat offenders with severe drop in ice time.

Even that last part might not be effective, because with the sheer number of kids being leaned on, it could simply end up being a case of a bunch of young guys learning how to adapt when the hit a bit of a wall in their first seasons.

And if Pronger's healthy in the summer and comes back, and you don't have the LTIR space to fit Weber's $8mm cap hit....?

Just finished watching game... wow what an abortion... If BOB wasn't stellar stoning the Isle's on about 6 out of 7 breakaways this would've been a complete blowout.

So many guys were brutal tonight but Giroux looked rough.

Then you move someone like Mezzy or Coburn. If you need to clear more space than you add another forward like JvR.

I dont see Pronger playing again though.

Is this system related? They do look disjointed terribly at times. They cant be this bad. Way too many times a forward after taking the blue line peels back and attempts a risky cross ice pass after 2 forwards and a Dman entered the zone. Its killing them and its making them predictable

I don't either, but you have to plan ahead.

They have a good group of talented kids. Why rip it to shreds to add one guy, even if that guy is Shea Weber?

Also, if you're trading for Weber, you can be certain that JvR is part of the package going the other way.

Hard to argue against that. Still the 4 seed in the eastern standings. This team is very inconsistant.

Bob was great....
Simmonds was good for a bit...
Voracek worked his face off all game i thought...

Being unable to get through the islanders tight defense is almost laughable... they have like what 12 million total for their defense and they shut us down. Meanwhile our defense looks confused and timid...

That was just piss awful. Was anyone on the same page? Not sure if I can say anything good about anyone Bob. At least the all had their skates on their right feet.

When Hartnell doesn't fall down once during a game... you know the team isn't working hard...

Watch that game and see how bad it was, how could it be system related? personally, I don't favor the Flyers system. But this is beyond that.

I wish I knew how to imbed the picture on the Isles first goal scored by Moulson. Timonen has his man, Coburn picks up a late man. Go to the highlights and freeze it just as Moulson gets the puck in the dead slot unchecked. You'll see Jagr to the left of the net along the goaline on a nice cruise. Giroux skating behind the net looking at the Taveras. And Hartnell doing a nice outside turn completely away from the net. Not one of them turned around and tried to pick anyone up. Absolutely horrendous.

The system can be blamed, at least partially, because it's an aggressive system. That leads to chances against. It makes it worse when guys don't execute the fundamentals that any system needs to work.

Blown coverages, forcing passes and shots that simply aren't there, overpursuing in your own end...Stuff like this happens when you have a team with so many young guys. The worrisome thing is, the veteran guys are making the same errors.
