Both Couturier and Schenn have played wing before, and who knows, in a couple of years they may well not have that logjam. Maybe Briere moves to wing. It's not something that requires a lot of worry right now.
- Jsaquella

I'd much rather move Briere to the wing when the time comes than Schenn or Couturier. Schenn and Couturier are both much better defensively.

Could the Flyers get Gagne for a pick at the deadline?
- Scottie Upshall

I'm pretty sure he is injured and I doubt L.A would give him up. They are looking fro scoring depth right now. Trading Gagne wouldn't help them in that regard.

There is no question Couturier has been great this season and most recently the past 5 games but I think Schenn and Couturier are being brought along just fine. Couturier will slump sooner or later and when it happens, put him on the 4th line again, while placing Schenn back to the 3rd line. I have no problem with both players going back and fourth so both can play center.
- Schenn2shine

Dude.. i think Coots shouldn't be on the 4th line. He's the better player between him and Schenn.

In my opinion outside of health, JvR has stayed pretty close to Carter was thus far in his career. For me it isn't a matter of JvR working hard, it's a matter of whether or not he can stay healthy. JvR's first season he scored into the teens. His second season he became a 20 goal scorer. This season I would have expected the same but he got hurt. Jeff Carter didn't get 40 until his 4th season in the NHL. I don't see anything wrong with that. I believe JvR could be every bit as good as Carter, if not better.
- Schenn2shine

I hope your right. There is no question that JVR's Season has been derailed due to injury.

You do realize that at age 22-25 or so, LeClair was criticized for the exact same things JvR is criticized for?
- Jsaquella

LOL. Was just going to say that I remember people female doging about LeClair's seemingly passive demeanor. The main gripe was that he was not a physically aggressive player, he didn't throw his body around, however he was always a physically stubborn player. When he wanted a piece of ice, along the boards or in the crease, he was not willing to compromise. He was an ox more than a raging bull. Had a helluva slapper too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Couturier and Schenn have been switched a few times in recent games 5 on 5, no?

Physical doesnt mean hitting and fighting all the time. LeClair used his body to protect the puck, he sacrificed his body in front of the net. He powered through people along the boards. That was how Johnny did it, and man was it beautiful.
- RooNosHockey

Yes. He did it after he got to Philly, and learned that he could dominate when he was used right. JvR will likely learn the same lessons. The biggest knocks on LeClair when he was a Hab were his skating and his seeming inability to use his size to his advantage.

Yes and being on the 4th line makes him hungry. But he's also out there in key situations like the end of games and penalty kills, so I wouldn't say he's only a 4th line player, it's just where he's playing right now at even strength.

Personally, I would move Talbot to 4th line center. Put Couturier in the 3rd line center position and move Schenn to 2nd line left wing.

Hartnell - Giroux - Jagr
Schenn - Briere - Voracek
Read - Couturier - Simmonds
Zolnierczyk - Talbot - Rinaldo

They played Couturier on different lines throughout many games, but the majority of the time he's been on the 4th line.

All very true. JvR could be a LeClair type guy...I don't trade that lightly, especially not when the player in question is just 22

In case you're looking for some D men available this is a nice write up by the Canucks blogger;

"Randy Jones- 1.5 mil
Why he's available- He's a UFA at season's end and the Jets may try and get something for him.
Why add him- I've always like the guy and think he's a solid option to be a depth type guy"

I think you guys will love this part of his blog.

The point was that LeClair getting older and maturing as an NHL player was a big contributor to his success, just like it will help JVR. I'm not trying to undervalue Lindros' role in LeClair's success.
- funmaster18

Knuble was a late bloomer as well. I am not on the "ride JVR out of town for a d-man" bandwagon. Let the kid develop a few more years...then if it doesn't pan out send him to Columbus

The trade of Carter for Jake and a pick was pretty weak return, the Flyers just got lucky as poop he fell that far, must be pay back for losing Kane for JVR ....

In a 6th D position Randy Jones isn't that bad. The only player that really intrigues me on that list is Voynov. Other than that most of the players are solid depth guys.

I'd love to keep him too...

I don't care if they don't trade for Weber.. but if he's available its something the Flyers should consider.

If they don't get a guy like Couturier, then that trade definitely has a much different feel to it.
