i agree that D wins. it's why falling short in 04 still burns me because they were so close, and i firmly believe they would have won the cup had their blueline been able to stay healthy.

get weber, sure, but at what cost? it's a fine line.

- hammarby31

You need a balance. If we had a strong defense with strong goaltending. We're not gonna win the cup with a mixture of rookies and 4th liners at forward.

Whats the boards consensus regarding which new players are likely to be in a Flyers uniform come trade deadline? (besides Gleason...)

Bryan Allen, Ladislav Smid ?

What will it take to get Ryan Suter deal done ?

any forwards on the radar ?

- MrBigglesworth

I think Allen would cost slightly less than Gleason. I think Smid would be similar to Gleason in cost, i.e. 2nd rounder and a guy like Harry Z.

For Suter, I'd expect Schenn or JvR, a guy like Gus or MAB and a 1st rounder.

Yea but Weber hasn't won a whole lot of championships either. However You are right about the defense but when we say defense we shouldn't be referring strictly to the defensemen because the forwards play a role too and I see more of the forwards screwing up defensively than the actual Defensemen.
- JoeRussomanno

Chara didnt win anything either until last year. Weber helps against other teams top lines. Need a shutdown guy who can take control out on the ice.

The problem is, is when idiots blame the guy's on ice/field/court/diamond performance on his personality. Two separate things.

But If they win a Stanley Cup with Bryz, the jokes about "The Universe" will become he's a quirky goofball, but he's OUR quirky goofball.

- Jsaquella

i get that. all i'm saying is i can see why his happy go lucky tigers kill you and the universe is humangous big persona rub people the wrong way at this stage of his philly career. if he had won a cup in phx (or even anaheim) as the starter, i think fans would have even less patience for that with the way his first season has gone to date.

Off topic story about why i love being a Flyer fan...

Moved to Orlando about 6 years ago to be closer to my mother and father who retired from South Jersey to Orlando (they love disney). Mom had just finished her battle with breast cancer and my dad went into heart failure due to sarcoidosis spreading from his lungs to his heart. So me and my brother moved down here to be closer to them...

Now on game days that none of us work, we all drive over to the folks house to watch the games. Everytime i wear my jersey outside people will drive by and roll down their windows and yell either, "Go Flyers!!" or "Flyers Suck"... To which i assume is a ranger fan.

If i walk to the mailbox here (our mail is kept in mail centers here), women literally stop and say, "Go flyers, are you from philly?".

I love being a Flyer fan.

I've learned to ignore most of the crap on here..

So i'm generally happier most of the time. Only 2 people on here i truly dislike.

So you think we are going to stick it out with Gusty and Lilja and no big splashes this trade deadline?

People who let his personality rub them the wrong way need to get a life or kill themselves, because obviously they have no joy in their lives and nothing to look forward to.

Its part of being a Flyer fan.

Honestly, I just can't understand disliking him because of that stuff. To me it's like disliking Richards because he didn't talk to the media

Rumors are circulating that the #Flyers could be talking with the #Hurricanes about a trade between Jakub Voracek and Tim Gleason.

If he were winning people would LOVE him. I still think he will win here, and win a lot. He will be a beloved figure here by the time it is all over.

i like Bryz's personality and agree with Jsaq that you have to differentiate between his on-ice play and his personality.

Having said that, I think some folks who really want to win a Stanley Cup, myself included, who view winning a Stanley Cup as a personal thing (rightfully or wrongfully, healthily or unhealthily), get a little bit put off by a guy who says that there are no problems here on the earth, etc. I mean he's right, right? Of course. But the fact is that we are listening to him because he's a goalie on the team that we want to win the Stanley Cup. Not having won for a long time is a problem. He's here to help solve that problem. But he is saying there are no problems and that's not what a Cup-starved fanbase necessarily wants to here from their new #1 goalie.

I'll catch you up...

Shelley sucks, Carter is a bust, and we're trading for Weber.

Roenick was and is still a goofball and fans loved him here. Once Bryz plays up to his capabilities, I'm sure everything will be fine.
- feelingkettle

i think of JR a little differently than a goofball. he worked his ass off and played hard. more "honest" than "goofball".

i do agree that if bryz rises to the challenge and delivers, he will be loved.

That's a lot for a potential rental in Suter. No thanks. I would be plenty happy with a Allen or Gleason at that cost. Beachumean with a good showing last night and the past week. Would love to see if that shoe fits.

I have no idea. I wouldn't be surprised if they traded for Shea Weber or if they stood pat, or did something in between. I know they have had talks about Gleason and with the Leafs. I just have no idea exactly how much they value the kids they have versus adding an impact defenseman.
