I would be giddy if JVR put up "bust" numbers like Carter.
- MBFlyerfan

you were serious about Voracek and Coots possibly not being able to put up Carters numbers combined... poop

They have a budget, but they have given every indication that they want to keep both, at almost any cost.

However, the word I heard was that both want to stay, as long as the Preds will take the next step to be a more serious contender.

That's why I think that if it comes down to it, they will try to shoot the moon with one or both of them if they can not work out a deal. Especially Weber.

- Jsaquella

They cant afford to pay Weber, Suter, and Rinne bigtime money and still get the offensive players needed to compete for a title. Never happen in Nashville.

I remember the goalie wars (similar to this year's) where people would ally themselves with Nitty against Esche or against Biron. Then I get to wondering why the two guys wear the same team's jersey...

- Flyskippy

I think Esche got screwed in philly... he worked his ass off and got screwed by us

They can't re-sign both AND take the next step. They don't have the budget for that plan. They're just saying all the right things.

Really? What other route would you suggest? Other teams could certainly offer better packages. what do you think might land him from a different route?
- GuyLaDouche

If other teams can offer better, then why ask this question? Nashville isn't going to take the second best package because Philly offered it.

JvR is 22, Schenn is 20. What's your point? JvR had more points then Simmonds before his injuries. JvR is more skilled then Simmonds. It's like you're okay with taking the plan B just to get Weber. There is more to a team then just one player. On top of this Weber already gets paid 7.5 million, which swallows both JvR and Schenn's contracts alive and most of our cap space along with it.
- Schenn2shine

There may be 5 forwards in the league that has the impact in-game that Weber has. Currently Weber is the better player then those 2 combined. 4 years from now he will likely have more impact then both those players combined. How long of a future are you looking for here, cause Weber is going to give you a chance to win now and for the next 10 years...

As for cap hit, he makes 7.5 mill this year... Then you structure another deal over the next 6-7 years that sees a cap hit about 6 million...

I understood the point you were trying to make. I think the Flyers are in a position where they could withstand the losses of JVR and a Schenn for Weber (if Nashville would even consider such a deal) in the short-term.

But there's not much more in the pipeline right now that projects as a top-6 forward. Flyers need to be taking advantage of having skilled forwards on their ELC's, not trading them away. Even for Weber.

- bradleyc4

The other issue is, NAshville's probably going to want at least a couple of high picks, plus JvR and Schenn, if not more, for Weber. If I'm Nashville, in a non traditional market that has had trouble filling the arena, and Weber's the face of my team, not only do I need a huge return hockey wise, I need somebody to sell as the new face of the Preds.

um yea JVR and Schenn could both be something to build a team around
- 2Real

and they could become average-to-good forwards. im sure nobody would look back on that trade possibility with regret down the road.

I think that if Perry and Ryan are offered Weber goes to ANA and NASH locks up Suter for the lond haul.

We've been trying to "Win now" for years. Shea Weber isn't going to instantly change this. Eric Lindros was one of the best and most feared players in the 90's and he didn't do it for us. When Chris Pronger won a Cup with the Ducks, he had a supporting cast to help him. Heck, one could debate whether or not Pronger was the number 1 Dman on that team because of Scott Neidermayer. Weber doesn't guarantee us anything.

Reese will remain in the Islanders lineup tonight and the team will use the same lineup as Tuesday, meaning that Staios is a healthy scratch tonight.
