Are you into being looked at smugly by an animal who doesn't give a poop about you until it's bored or time to eat? Because that's what cats do.

Not even for Weber. I'm doubting he gets moved during the regular season anyway. Suter could get moved at the deadline if Nashville gets off season help but moving Suter is another tricky move seeing how important he is to the Preds. Both might have to wait until the off season.
- Schenn2shine

Still talking Weber and Suter trades? You guys are unreal ...

You cant have it both ways.

The Flyers as it stands, are one of the top offensive teams in the league. They can lose a few goals up front.

A guy like Weber is someone who can take over games, and win the Conn Smythe. You overpay for guys like that. He is in his prime.

Either way I think Nashville would laugh at that offer. Not nearly enough. I understand that losing some depth would be an issue, but you have to give to get. Weber is a top 3 d-man in the league.

- flyer_nutter

Have what both ways? I'm flat out saying no way to the trade and I disagree that we can afford to just give away anyone up front. Injures happen, just like JvR is hurt now. For most of the season Giroux and his line has been our offense. I think it would be abad move for us.

I'm strictly a dog person. There are many things I dislike about cats, although I'm sure there are some decent ones out there. Can't tell because they all make me sneeze.

Note that he mentioned JVR's contract. He means, I'm sure, you don't move onto a long-term deal before a guy is getting close to UFA status unless he's shown you he's earned it. I'm guessing he feels the long-term deal on JVR was premature and going for a shorter-term, or even 1-year deal when you'll still control the rights at the end would have been wiser, in his opinion.
- bodiva88

Hey Bo! Long time no see!

I agree with all of your post. JVR's contract is signed and sealed but more so when it comes to a guy like Voracek..

If they do choose to give him an extension. Please dont do something for 4 or more years.

So how would you improve the D? Which I think we all agree needs to be done. With a 3rd pairing guy in the off-season?

Even if you wait to sign lets say Suter, you will need cap space, and that will more than likely come from the offense.

Defense wins championships. The Flyers are lacking here. I'll ask you this. Would the loss of Giroux for 30 games be a bigger blow than losing Timonen for 30 games?

The Flyers need more horses on D. Homer usually has the balls to pull off those kind of deals, I hope if he has a chance to, he does.

Long term contracts have other effects aside from cap implications. Hockey players are human, and if you keep giving them 2-4 year deals, they will naturally want to compete harder to earn their next contract. It's dangerous for young players to have that kind of security long term deals offer while they are still trying to find themselve in the league, IMO.

We have 9 players in double digit points. We get production from everywhere. Our rookie 4th line center has 10 goals.... I think we can afford to give up a few younger unknown quantities for a 26 y/o norris trophy canidate with the hardest shot in the NHL... and he's a captain.

Let me come at you from a different angle.

If you trade JvR and Schenn for Weber. Shelley plays every single night.

#Flyers are close to making a trade for an offensive D-man. URGENT need for someone to play the point on PP. Could be done this week.

I'm not against trading 2 offensive players for him, but not JVR and Schenn together.

Why pose that question? Look no further than our actual #1, Pronger, being out. Though our defense suffers, we are still able to compete and stay in 4th for the conference. I'm not saying Giroux is more valuable than Pronger or vice versa, but JVR+Schenn+draft picks for Weber is an overpayment. Both of those guys are future 1st liners; no reason why you would trade all of that for a Weber, who although is a top defenseman, is showing that he doesn't want to stay in Nashville.

Completely agree.

You have to be careful which guys you give those to. A guy like Giroux sure. Maybe Cooties or Briere when he signed here.

You will have to give them the raises when needed but at the same time they are guys you can let walk or deal.

Look at Buffalo with Leino.

Nonsense. Dogs can do no harm. Your cats probably are coating dogs you come in contact with in their own cat hair to make you think this.

So let me get this straight. Your were ok with trading lupul, sbisa, and 2 firsts for a 34 year old pronger... but you think trading schenn and jvr plus a second for a 26 year old Weber is a bad deal?

Weber at 26 MIGHT be slightly less valuable then Pronger at 34 in pure hockey skills, but if Weber plays here for the next 10 years then its a win big time...
