Let's not throw him under the bus, he's a young player having a tough season, on a poopty (frank)ing team. Eventually it gets to the point where he may feel everything he touches turns to poop, it won't be like this forever. Plus if you trade him now you aren't getting full value, it makes no sense. Patience is sorely lacking around here. - jaymster790

If Guy Boucher was coaching the habs, having the season he's having right now in Tampa, he would've been fired by now.
Like Carbonneau was before him.
And Therrien.
And Vigneault.
And Julien.
It's not that they don't put the right people in place. It's they expect success from their coaches while icing poop teams after poop teams. - Pecafan Fan
What I mean by new blood is up in management, someone with a god damned idea and a plan that won't let the pressure get to him, not some other knee jerk reaction idiot that doesn't understand the salary cap. |

I don't think we would get that right now, and it's not like we don't need an offensive defenseman, he has the highest ceiling of any prospect of ours. Would it be worth it to trade another high potential Dman for a forward, regardless of how good he is? It creates another hole and doesn't really make us any better.

I'm going to play a little sofa-GM this morning and break-down this team as I see it now and moving forward.
Price: Building block. I don't care if the contract is 10 years, just get him one.
Budaj: One more year, doesn't (or shouldn't) really matter.
Team needs heading into next season: none in this case.
Gill: Gone at the deadline.
Subban: Sign him to a 2 year deal for 2.75. Same contract as Price after his poop season. If we want to have success moving forward we need more than one elite D-man, so while I agree that PK has issues to work out, he is part of the solution moving forward.
Gorges: Will be far more effective once he gets 3-4 minutes as opposed to 1-2 but his worth has been correctly identified and signed accordingly.
Weber: Not an NHL-caliber player. If anyone wants him, just do it.
Diaz: Might be an eventual 5-6-7 guy. Might not. Personally, hè's not the kind of guy I want in my bottom pairs anyways.
Kaberle: If possible, get rid of him. Doubt it though. Acquiring this d-bag might mean that Diaz is shopped after the season for a marginal return.
Campoli: Bye! I don't care if all we get in return is Glen Healy's attempts at analyzing hockey, it'll be good enough.
Emelin: He might be a career 4-5-6 guy but he's one I want to keep. He is exactly what you want in those bottom-pairings (might even develop into a 3 guy and it's still ideal!) Not a terrible first pass although he still has some learning to do, hits and guys don't get to stand around Price when he's in front. Keeper.
Needs moving forward: Top pairing D and a depth one if we can miraculously cancel the Kaberle deal.
Cole: Keeper.
Pacioretty: Keeper
Desharnais: Keeper, for now.
Bourque: Will stay.
Eller: Will stay.
Kostitsyn: With the news that he wants to stay for cheaper, I try to sign him. I'm still of the opinion he's expendable if he wants anything over 3.75. If we trade him at the deadline, then we try to get him back in the off-season, or sign a similar player.
Moen: With the season he's having, his stock will never be higher, time to sell.
Darche: Bye!
Blunden: Re-sign. He'll come cheap and is a decent option on line 4.
White: Same as Blunden.
Gomez: Bye! Don't care how, just make it happen!
Gionta: Stay.
Nokelainen: If they can get rid of Gomez, he can re-signed for cheap. If not, then he can't be re-signed. Either way, he's Center 5.
Plekanec: To me, he finishes the season in Montreal and is shopped in the off-season. Or unload him at the deadline to get a better return if the season keeps going this way. Let me explain myself before attacking me. Of the center's we have, there's no doubt he is our most proven commodity and would fetch the highest return. I talked earlier about going to get a top pairing D-man and Gauthier SHOULD be making him a part of that transaction if it is to be made. With the draft position that we are looking at, it's time to finally draft the big center in a draft: Galchenyuk. If we do get him, let's allow him to start next season playing with the team. Also, Plekanec moved allows the D man to be paid since Markov's contract probably won't be off the books "officially".
Needs: Drafting Galchenyuk(FINALLY!), potentially some 3rd line wingers, a tough guy for line 4.

He has been holding out for the Habs job.
Did not want to miss out by committing to another organization.
In fact, minimized his network commitments by giving up working on TSN to give him more time to prepare for the day he gets the job.
All kidding aside, the only reason I would consider McGuire is he would have the balls to tell the media, etc.. to (frank) right off and follow his vision, not panic every time they start whining. Other than that, not sure. |

Not sure that this is the solution either but Roy as coach would also tell media that he can't hear them because of his rings plugging his ears. |

If say we do draft Galchenyuk we're looking a lot better at forward already, then the need would be as you said some bottom 6 character players and some legitimate defensemen, which don't quite grow on trees but hey... Galchenyuk would be great. |
