Isnt that the biggest IF ever..

Is it worth the gamble that he can be a top 10 or even 20 goalie at 36,37,38,39?

I think the safer route would have been Vokoun... said it then and I still think it now. I like that they wanted to fix the goaltending issue we have had over the years.. just dont like the way they went about doing it.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas.

Any statement that starts with "If" is meaningless.

Bryzgalov by in large has been an abject failure so far, doesn't mean he can't right the ship and play well the rest of the season. But if one of his prime years is playing out like this, I shutter to think about the back end of his contract.

me too, but i love this:

"I have my owner up here talking about a Stanley Cup. That's a bunch of (expletive)," Tortorella said. "We need to take it one game at a time."

Well his record is good, but as far as save % and gaa he's near the bottom of the NHL. Sure some of that is being hung out to dry. It might be a little strong, but he hasn't come anywhere near living up to expectations.

Jeff Carter for Jakub Voracek and Sean Couturier.

If Schenn and Simmonds continue to play well and start to get on the scoresheet... can any GM win GM of the year other than Holmgren?

Hitch is loving it. Pietrangeko and Shattenkirk etc etc and good in net, they are going to be hell to deal with

He loves Backes like a son, Backes is a beast.

Plus, they have Tarasenko and Schwartz on the horizon. Should be a very good team for several years.

backes is the perfect liaison between hitch and the rest of that club i'd imagine, too. maybe ol' kenny will have a bit of a shelf life there.

12.5 mins a night isn't really a fourth-line center, but yeah, i get what you're saying. pretty awesome. they have an outside shot at 11 10+ goal scorers.

It seems to me not fixing the Goalie situation is just as big as a gamble. Fans can't have it both ways. They complain about the goaltending, and then complain when they attempt to fix it. Goaltending is the most important issue on the ice. And it's a position that requires an investment to make. Goalies can play at that age, and play well.

Voracek will definitely get 10. That will be ten 10 goal scorers. I guess the guy with the outside shot is Schenn, only 2 goals, but he could end with double digits if he can stay healthy.

Edit: I thought Schenn deflected the Coburn shot last night, goal hasn't been changed so I guess not.

Well he gets those minutes due to his PK responsibilities, right? Either way, when the team plays well, Lavy does like to roll all 4 lines.

No it just seems with the Flyers they are always in extremes.. went from being content with Boosh and Leighton, to trading away Richards and Carter, and signing a goalie to a 9 year 51 million dollar deal.

I think they wanted to improve that position.. and did, but didnt go about it the smartest possible way. They went to an extreme.

In my opinion?

Not a 9 year 51 million dollar deal with a full NMC. But who am I?

Looks like Vokoun at 1.5 mill wasnt a bad choice... especially considering the Caps are in a pretty similar situation with their back up looking like a potential future starter...

Finally, the Flyers looked like a well rounded team. If they play like this all the time through the playoffs there is an awesome chance for a parade.

As for the Rivera family my heart goes out to them, but this is all getting blown out of proportion. They have seen 2 other doctors that told them the same thing. Unfortunately if she does have a successful surgery, she is still going to pass away. The family is just trying to prolong the grief.

Yeah, Schenn is who I had in mind. If he can stay healthy this year, it could happen. Really like his game and it will obviously only get better. Hoping in a year or two, he'll be a huge contributor.

It must have. It definitely hit something because it changed directions. Harding had zero chance to stop any of the 5 Flyers goals.

Thats the part that I didn't understand. Yes you needed to improve your goalie but why sign a guy to a nine year deal with a NMC when you have a young guy that showed alot of promise and could very well be a starter in a year or so.

Yea, the reason he gets 12.5 is cause we take so many damn penalties and he is typically the first unit out there killing penalties. I'd be willing to bet 3-5 of those minutes are shorthanded.

Outside shot at 12 if you count Meszaros and a potential offensive flurry by Schenn. The more staggering number to me is the potential to have ten 20+ goal scorers. They could have two 40+ goal scorers and possibly four 30+ goal scorers. A lot of season left to play and anything can happen but if they improve on their first half of the season we are gonna have one hell of a stat sheet when the season ends.

The Flyers could have had 10 goals last night. Harding stood on his head......
