what have i done...

If you were referring to me calling Carter a bust.. then thats just not true...

I hate him as a player. I thought he was overpaid and lazy on the ice. Never thought he was a bust... he's a good center... i just hated how people acted like he was something special...

I never said or thought he was a bust. He who shall not be named beats that drum like it's his job.

My favorite postgame question asked last night was one to Couturier.

"Have you ever had a goal streak like this before?"

The rookie was very polite, giving a straightforward answer.

"In junior hockey, yes, but not the NHL."

I thought he was fighting the puck a little bit last night, too.

Wouldn't categorize it as a strong performance considering:

- still giving up rebounds
- still fighting the puck
- let in another soft goal
- weak opponent
- solid team defense

Yeah, but at least DiPi can be put on LTIR and replaced.

We have to keep playing Bryz.

Well the good news is that Dipietro is capable of being the best goalie in the league

9 years is way to long, especially when the goalie your signing is 31 yrs old. I like that the Flyers went out and got a legit goalie (even as bad as its been) but the years and NMC are things that should of been avoided.

If Bryzgalov comes along and stabilizes the postion for the next 5-7-8 years, then it's not so bad, is it.

Isnt that the biggest IF ever..

Is it worth the gamble that he can be a top 10 or even 20 goalie at 36,37,38,39?

I think the safer route would have been Vokoun... said it then and I still think it now. I like that they wanted to fix the goaltending issue we have had over the years.. just dont like the way they went about doing it.

i'd be happy if he got his ish together and played well the rest of this year and, like two more years. goaltender is such a fickle position. look at ryan miller. best in the world two years ago, now his numbers are hideous. thomas/rask, giguere, etc. etc.

exacty why I think long term deals for goalies are bad ideas.. even if that goalie is Lundqvist..

ya i don't disagree. thing is, they'll find some way to work around it. they're always pressed up against the cap and have contract everyone panics about, but it's never prevented them from doing anything over the last few years.

props for coburn by jay greenburg in today's csnphilly:

Statistics and damn lies report that Braydon Coburn is only plus-3 for the season.

All that number really represents is that Coburn is a 20-point-a-year player who has matured as a defense-first thinker, especially now that he risks a minus every shift against the opposition’s top line in the absence of Chris Pronger. It also means that, in the absence of Bernie Parent, Pelle Lindbergh or a young Ron Hextall, Coburn is playing a lot in front of Ilya Bryzgalov.

Must be that the other four guys on the ice with Coburn are screwing up a lot, too. Because from what we can see, Coburn has become one of the league’s better shutdown defensemen and in our eyes, just as much of an All Star Game selection overlook as Scott Hartnell.

Coburn, the Flyers’ best player in their 5-1 win over Minnesota Tuesday night, continued to be a major reason they still have a chance to go deep into the playoffs, even without the concussed Pronger. Sometimes we think one of the reasons Bryzgalov can’t get his groove on is that he’s seeing a significant four-plus shots a game fewer than he did last year in Phoenix. That says a great deal for how well the Flyer defense continues to play without the team’s presumed-most essential piece.

Kimmo Timonen is a worthy All Star, Andrej Meszaros and Matt Carle have stepped it up a clear level from the way they finished last season and Marc-Andre Bourdon has been a capable fill-in.

Of course, because the next hit on Pronger’s head next season could be his last in the NHL and because Timonen is 36, Paul Holmgren will find out exactly what it will cost to get Shea Weber.

If it’s prohibitive, however, the next best – and easier – fix is to bring in a defenseman who hits. As well as the Flyers’ defensemen are playing they all pretty much play the same way, which means moving the puck and their legs but not moving anyone out of the crease.

We mean: the Flyers need a mean guy to complement a defense that is efficiently keeping them in the hunt for the East’s top seed in the so-far unending absences of some good forwards and big stops.

Finally, the Flyers looked like a well rounded team. If they play like this all the time through the playoffs there is an awesome chance for a parade.

As for the Rivera family my heart goes out to them, but this is all getting blown out of proportion. They have seen 2 other doctors that told them the same thing. Unfortunately if she does have a successful surgery, she is still going to pass away. The family is just trying to prolong the grief.

"I have my owner up here talking about a Stanley Cup. That's a bunch of (expletive)," Tortorella said. "We need to take it one game at a time."
