- Crimsoninja

They won't roll. I'm expecting a very close game that can go either way. If Alex Smith plays like he did last week Niners will be a handful. I'm hoping he wakes up and realizes he's Alex Smith.

Actually my preference is for Shelley to start in net for the Flyers vs. the Islanders (without a mask, and equiptment).
- PLindbergh31

You really dont like Shelley do you? What are the negatives and the positives of his game?

Hard to make a decision on him without knowing the facts.

No worries Hammar. If the Pats wins Sunday, they will meet their kryptonite in the Super Bowl.

david tyree's helmet?!?!

Tyree's helmet wasn't responsible for holding a team that averaged 36 points a game to 14 in the Super Bowl.

Wow, you leave for one second to eat dinner.

Well, I'll just say this. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. It might seem like I'm taking things personally but I'm not. However, I know when someone is taking a personal attack, which someone was.

I don't agree with these people. End of story.

Trust me I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you, ever, I dont have an office job or have all day at home to post here every day. Just wondering why you blow things out of proportion constantly.

As in when someone says they felt Clutterbuck was running around a bit too much and it would've been nice for a Flyer to step up to him; how you come up with that meaning they should get a stick to the face, or Boulerice'd, is absurd. That's what frustrates people and then evolves into a 15 page back and forth of bickering that no one else wants to waste time skimming over.

Been skimming the comments and just cannot help myself anymore.

I don't see anywhere that anyone here is getting mad or bent out of shape. I also dont think anyone is suggesting they know more than you since they've played hockey...it seems you're the one taking things so personal.

I think a few are getting quite frustrated with your inability to understand a simple concept thats apparent with any well-bonded team. If a guy like Clutterbuck is taking runs at your teammates continuously at bad times, like the specific examples presented pages ago, I think any player wants to know that his guys have their back. Wouldn't you want that feeling? NO, nowhere did anyone suggest to slash the guy in the teeth, or cross check them in the mouth.

All that's being said is it would've been nice for someone (Hartnell, Simmonds, Shelley , etc) to chirp him and finish checks harder on him for the rest of the game and once it was a blowout, approach Clutterbuck to dance. Either he backs up his play and fights or he absorbs a Matt Cooke reputation, and I dont see him wanting that.

Has anyone bothered to look at the TOI shift charts and see if Cluttrbuck and Shelley were ever on the ice together at the same time? Because Jody Shelley doesn't decide when his number is called. I have looked at them.

Mr Wallace said that last night at the Caps game, they led the fathers, uncles, whoever out of the stands with 4 minutes left and escorted them down to the tunnel so that, as the team left the Ice, the fathers could all high five their sons and recreate pee wee hockey.
(which is so cute!)
Flyers need to be sure that doesn't happen again by beating them!

Nice by the team but yes, let's hope they don't get the chance tonight.

youareright

Simmonds did do a good job there, i agree. I was just attempting to elaborate the points being made pages ago.

A fight doesnt need to be started everytime a teammate gets hit with a hard, clean check...that mentality that has crept into the league is stupid.

I just agree with others that Clutterbuck was getting a little out of hand last nite.

Far too much is being made of it. Normal stuff of a guy trying to compete and show some fire.

I think the 9'ers played their Super Bowl last week. The Giants seem to be on a mission again. I expect the Giants to crush.

I'm sorry, how do I blow everything out of proportion constantly? One time I go against the rest of the sheep, this is a constant thing?

When I brought up the example of Jesse Boulerice, it was a line of question of what Jody Shelley is suppose to do. Jody Shelley's name is the one that keeps coming up as being the player to do something. Any player can react at anytime.

What's wrong with me pointing this out?

You musta missed the part where i listed his stats...

Thats a bad career for a guy who can't play in the NHL...

Talk about "blanket statements"

- archion113

I realize the game is about far more then goals and assists. Shelley was never in the NHL for his scoring prowess. Didn't think that needed to be elaborated on.

What should the Coach do if he feels a player such as Clutterbuck is taking liberties?

Exactly. I've also pointed this out. Jody Shelley is just filling in. He has a contract with the Flyers, so the player must play is all I'm saying. Why does Shelley have to be the guy who goes after Cutterbuck, when so much is being made of team toughness? If Shelley wasn't in the line up, what would have been done?

You are right that any player on the Flyers can react at anytime. I just think people expect Shelley to be the guy to step up and do something when he gets a shift. He might have not been on the ice with Clutterbuck but maybe he mixes it up with another Wild player (doesnt mean fight either). I do understand what you are trying to say though.

It's all easier said then done. The Wild's Coach could have been keeping Cutterbuck from Jody Shelley's shifts. Cutterbuck's assignment could be to wear down the other team's talented players with hits. Were they the right kind of hits, probably not. Cutterbuck did spend a lot of time in the box though. Laviolette could have asked Shelley not to take liberties.
