If its just a matter of confidence for Bryz... then he should be playing against crappy teams...
- archion113

The point is how the hell is he suppose to right the ship if he cant get consecutive starts, its ridiculous.

Play him 3 straight and then rest him. Give Bob the chance to play against an elite team like Boston on Sunday.

Where is Coughlin on the Weekly Coaching Rankings?
- PLindbergh31

the way he instructs Manning to close his eyes and just heave the ball into the air is something to behold

Ahh. So that's why I felt a disruption in the Force.

Yes, it was a last minute decision because of all the snow we've been getting around these parts this week but he and the fam packed into the Millenium Falcon and made the trip north.

Clutterbuck took liberties all night long, and no one said boo to him about it. As Jsaquella pointed out, there was zero reason for Shelley not to ask Clutterbuck to go last night. Shelley saw plenty of ice time in the third period, and the game was over early in the third period.
- PLindbergh31

Clutterbuck is not going to fight Shelley. Clutterbuck has had 5 fights in his entire NHL career and hasn't had a fight since the 09/10 Season.

If on that play at the end of the 2nd when he hit Carle, he hurt Carle... but got a penalty.. would you feel like that was sufficient enough? The point is when a guy is running around like that, hitting your top players.. its only a matter of time before one of them gets hurt.. Enforcers are supposed to prevent that. At least thats the common idea.
- jak521

No they're not supposed to prevent that. Not anymore. It's not the common idea, it's a misperception.

All I keep hearing is how Bob should start bc he has outperformed Bryz. So let Bryz play 3 straight games and get into a groove and then come back to Bob on Sunday against the Bruins. We can then get a good look at Bob versus a very good hockey club (lets see what he has). Nothing against anyone, I just would like to see this rotation.
- stveshdy

I think it may have played out that way, and it may still, I don't think anything has officially been announced yet. I think if there was a different opponent Thursday you might have seen Bryz, Bobrovsky's statistics are hard to ignore vs. the Islanders. And like Laviolette said, Bryzgalov is the clear # 1, that would lend him to getting the starts in a big division game against the Devils, as well as a big Conf. game with the Bruins.

And Simmonds did do enough to get Clutterbuck's attention and get him to take some stupid penalties, getting him off the ice. But I'm glad they didn't fight.
- bodiva88

youareright

Simmonds did do a good job there, i agree. I was just attempting to elaborate the points being made pages ago.

A fight doesnt need to be started everytime a teammate gets hit with a hard, clean check...that mentality that has crept into the league is stupid.

I just agree with others that Clutterbuck was getting a little out of hand last nite.

I watch hockey... i know Shelley can't play. I'm waiting for you to prove me wrong.

I can't prove to you that Shelley sucks. It should be blatantly obvious to you, if its not, then you need to figure it out on your own.

- archion113

I watched last nights game. And Shelley did a good job in his 9 minutes on the ice. He played his position well defensively, registered some hits, and made plays with the puck, to move it out of the zone. He absolutely can play a 4th line role. He's been in the League for 10 years now, that's a pretty good career for a guy who can't play. There's lots of guys that can fight, they all don't make the NHL. I'm about substance rather then blanket statements.

Mr Wallace said that last night at the Caps game, they led the fathers, uncles, whoever out of the stands with 4 minutes left and escorted them down to the tunnel so that, as the team left the Ice, the fathers could all high five their sons and recreate pee wee hockey.
(which is so cute!)
Flyers need to be sure that doesn't happen again by beating them!

Richards was the shut down center... Carter was always the 2nd line center.

Always.

- archion113

I don't care what number line you put them on. Stevens used Carter to check other teams top lines on a regular basis.

Been skimming the comments and just cannot help myself anymore.

I don't see anywhere that anyone here is getting mad or bent out of shape. I also dont think anyone is suggesting they know more than you since they've played hockey...it seems you're the one taking things so personal.

I think a few are getting quite frustrated with your inability to understand a simple concept thats apparent with any well-bonded team. If a guy like Clutterbuck is taking runs at your teammates continuously at bad times, like the specific examples presented pages ago, I think any player wants to know that his guys have their back. Wouldn't you want that feeling? NO, nowhere did anyone suggest to slash the guy in the teeth, or cross check them in the mouth.

All that's being said is it would've been nice for someone (Hartnell, Simmonds, Shelley , etc) to chirp him and finish checks harder on him for the rest of the game and once it was a blowout, approach Clutterbuck to dance. Either he backs up his play and fights or he absorbs a Matt Cooke reputation, and I dont see him wanting that.

- SeaIslelandLush

Wow, you leave for one second to eat dinner.

Well, I'll just say this. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. It might seem like I'm taking things personally but I'm not. However, I know when someone is taking a personal attack, which someone was.

I don't agree with these people. End of story.

You musta missed the part where i listed his stats...

Thats a bad career for a guy who can't play in the NHL...

Talk about "blanket statements"

This is what I am talking about. Utter nonsense if true.

How the hell is Bryz supposed to get in a rhythm like this? Now if Bob plays great again, it just starts the whole bullpoop over again.

Lavy has one Achilles heal with this team and it is goaltending.

- MBFlyerfan

I don't think it's a bad decision to play Bobrovsky Thursday night. He has really good numbers against the Islanders, and there is a back to back this weekend against two better opponents in which Bryzgalov is likely to play both games.

Actually my preference is for Shelley to start in net for the Flyers vs. the Islanders (without a mask, and equiptment).
