I thought Shelley was solid last night. You can make an argument that the other team wasn't very good and I can understand why many would be annoyed by his cap hit but give credit when credit is due. Normally people are complaining that his 3 minutes a game does thing for the team but last night he played 9 minutes. The problem people blindly hate him for his price tag and when he does play a game, where he's actually earning his pay, it's still not good enough. I wasn't here last night to see the comments of the lone goal Bryz allowed but the comments around here are so predictable, I'm sure Bryz was nailed to the cross.

A few people were doing their best Pilate impression, but it wasn't that many.

Shelley did OK in terms of playing, but he sure as Hell didn't stop Clutterbuck from taking runs at the Flyers skill guys all night long.

Not ti hijack the conversation, but exactly what other teams would have been in the market to sign Bryzgalov to a mega contract? I think the Flyers were bidding against themselves.
- PLindbergh31

Good question. Its hard to say they were bidding against themselves bc all it takes is one crazy team to try and get him. He was the best goalie that would of been on the market, usually those players get paid somewhere.

At 5-1 in the third period, that's not the time for Shelley to do any enforcing.

Well sure its a big risk. But if he goes on to play like a top 10 goalie in the league and stays healthy for the next 8 1/2 years, it would be a steal.

How would you say the Flyers are doing masking Pronger's injury. From what I can tell on here, most are in agreement that some sort of replacement is still needed.

- Duran76

I agree 100% with top part, but Im not a gambler.. just part of my nature. I see Bob, and I think he has starter potential... hell he had 28 wins and a .915 save% last year... I dont go out and risk the next decade on another guy.. Just not me. Again, I like Bryz.. and love that he is on the Flyers, just dont like his contract.

As for the 2nd part.. I think the Flyers need a 3rd pairing guy and they would be set. I dont think they need to go out and get a #1. Timonen, Coburn, Carle, Meszy all mask that loss.

I'll go ahead and plug the necessary "enforcers could accomplish their purpose far more effectively if the instigator rule wasn't protecting dirty players" comment.

We have no idea what other teams, if any, were interested.

I'm not knocking the fact the Flyers signed him, just raising the question. If he performs well the contract will have been worth it.

why not? I'd rather give up a couple goals in january then lose a Giroux for the season.

True, although on what happened with Vokoun it appears the market was thin.

but he's also a great locker room guy and door opener.
I understand your points Jak but until Homey sees it a different way, he's on the team eating up over a million bucks in cap space.

- phi1671

That doesnt bother me. I understand he isnt going anywhere.. I understand he is our 14th forward. I just also know he isnt an NHL caliber player. He is a good guy to have around the team who can step in and fight if need be, and doesnt typically play enough to kill the team.

Yea really. I saw hartsy stand up to him, and I was glad they didn't go because I don't want Hartsy in the box in that game. However next game especially after the Jagr mocking, which btw I wouldn't condone our guys doing totally classless, someone needs to go toe to toe with him. Really wish they'd bring back Sestito seems like he's the best player they have in that department.
- JoeRussomanno

Totally agree..Funny thing is, I'd expect something like that from Avery, but didn't know Rupp was so arrogant and so eager to draw attention to himself by mocking a HOF'er. I don't condone anyone doing it but looks like even fourth liners on the Rangers enjoy the showboating. Anisimov decided to pretend target practice at the goalie vs the lightning after his goal, so I guess this is just the way the team is. It's gonna be even sweeter to watch them collapse come playoff time once again.

One would think that. The Flyers werent willing to find out if Bobrovsky was going to be ready to carry the load. They decided to acquire and sign a proven goalie in the NHL. The Flyers work and see Bobrovsky more than any of us and you have to think during their evaluations they needed to upgrade the goalie. Now whether that was from Homer or Snider is another question.

I know he did. Once the game was in the bank, Shelley should have sent a message to Clutterbuck, he didn't do it.

Or no one wanted him? or he was asking way too much and teams pulled out only leaving the caps? Many things could have happened that we will never know.

I'm not a fan of the 9 year deal myself, but it is what it is. The cap hit is reasonable enough. Let's see what he can do down the stretch. The stretch drive and playoffs are what they pay him for, so let's see if he can strap the team on his back and put his work boots on.

YEa funny thing is HBO was bending over backwards to make them look like the good guys, and in reality they are a bunch of jag offs. Oh I'm gonna love watching them implode down the stretch, and they will.

Voukoun I believe was also 34-35 yrs old. I dont see a team willing to commit long term on him.
