I understand that, but there is too much other stuff they could have written. Also I think people as Pannach would do themselves a huge service to maintain some consistency. He just had a mini midseason lynch Bryzgalov campaign but an enforcer who is paid a hefty contract for his services can get scratched for 70% of the season and not fight like he's paid too. wow

Pannach used to be a great read about 10 years ago...I also used to like Rob Parent but I guess their writing to a hit when they were both let go of their respective jobs and they had to write a different way to bring in readers. so, instead of being consistent they are borderline TMZ writers. Drama sells. I have no doubt he knows the ropes but I just get tired of all the drama. When you write make sure you are not the focus but it's the opposite.

the beat writers will write something against public opinion to just sell or get hits...half of what they read is like a Mad Lib Daily Story

well for someone to NOT be an NHL player he has lasted over 10 years in the league where the average players usually lasts between 5 to 7 years. since he started to now the game has changed and it's phasing out the type of player he is...

If there were no fighting in the league.. would he be in the NHL?

Well Voukoun has been substantially better in all categories than Bryz.. and had a better save% last season. Over the course of his career, which is almost double the games Bryz played, he also has a better career gaa and save% although they are very close. Yet one is on a one year 1.5 mil contract, and the other is making 49.5 more over the following with an additional 8 years.
- jak521

Thats partly due to the fact that Vokouns agent screwed him. Every team had a starter and Vokoun had to settle with a bad deal.

Edit: Kind of what Ryan Madson just went through in baseball.

If Shelley is in the lineup the next time Rupp is playing us, (notice how i mentioned if and is there) I'll be completely happy with Shelley even taking the instigator on top of the fighting major. My gosh this is the flyers if anyone is gonna disrespect one of our boys, its the fans, when a player does some poop like Rupp and its on HBO now there's a certain amount of pride to go get back not only for Shelley himself but that logo on the front.
- JoeRussomanno

Hartnell said something to him, and I really hope if there's a game later this year that we play them, someone steps up and shows this idiot that we are not going to stand idly by and take it. Sure, don't need to go nuts in a nationally televised WC event, but say in Feb, send that borderline NHL'er and the Rangers a message win or lose, we're not just gonna bend over and take it.

No doubt about it.. the market for a goalie wasnt huge. There were only a few teams with question marks.. which is why i would have rather seen the Flyers court a few guys and get a read. The did what they thought was necessary and I cant fault them for that.. I just dont like it.

It was actually one of the few years that they probably could have just waited til FA and even come out with a better deal for the Flyers.

Either way, it's over with and Bryz and BOB are our goalies. For us to have a good year and playoff run, both need to play as well as they can.

I think the concept of getting a top tier goalie is right, its the 9 yrs NMC that seems alittle careless. If the Flyers didnt offer this type of committment, I dont know that the deal gets done. One would have to assume that Bryzgalov would have been paid around the same, if not more, if he was to hit the open market.

One thing I have noticed about this team over the past few seasons is that they absolutely do let this stuff go... There were guys last night in a 5-1 game running all around the ice and killing people. Early on Briere gets trucked on a clear interference penalty.. one of your top players and leaders.. the guys come over and mull around a bit, but nobody seemed to pissed off. Clutterbuck runs Carle with 2 seconds left at the end of the 2nd when the puck was behind the net and it was obvious Carle was waiting it out.. and nobody stepped in there... I want that tough dont (frank) with us attitude back.

Not ti hijack the conversation, but exactly what other teams would have been in the market to sign Bryzgalov to a mega contract? I think the Flyers were bidding against themselves.

My point was that if he isnt fighting, and he hasnt been, he shouldnt be playing. He is there solely because he is a fighter, and he cant do much of anything else. He is an NHL fighter.

oh i bet the editor at the time told him to make some sh!t up because there was an absolute deadline. Don't you remember if the game lasted past 10pm, the story would not be in the paper? Under sports it would say "the game ended too late to publish the results". So, I bet he pushed to make up a play (not saying it's right) and it never happened.

i still think he's a Pens fan and was forced to work in Philly.

No doubt.. but there are 12+ forwards and 6+ dmen on any given team.. you can mask injuries to those much easier than a goalie who is a clear #1.. most teams only have one of those.
- jak521

Well sure its a big risk. But if he goes on to play like a top 10 goalie in the league and stays healthy for the next 8 1/2 years, it would be a steal.

How would you say the Flyers are doing masking Pronger's injury. From what I can tell on here, most are in agreement that some sort of replacement is still needed.

Yea really. I saw hartsy stand up to him, and I was glad they didn't go because I don't want Hartsy in the box in that game. However next game especially after the Jagr mocking, which btw I wouldn't condone our guys doing totally classless, someone needs to go toe to toe with him. Really wish they'd bring back Sestito seems like he's the best player they have in that department.

I thought Shelley was solid last night. You can make an argument that the other team wasn't very good and I can understand why many would be annoyed by his cap hit but give credit when credit is due. Normally people are complaining that his 3 minutes a game does thing for the team but last night he played 9 minutes. The problem people blindly hate him for his price tag and when he does play a game, where he's actually earning his pay, it's still not good enough. I wasn't here last night to see the comments of the lone goal Bryz allowed but the comments around here are so predictable, I'm sure Bryz was nailed to the cross.
- Schenn2shine

Shelley did OK in terms of playing, but he sure as Hell didn't stop Clutterbuck from taking runs at the Flyers skill guys all night long.

but he's also a great locker room guy and door opener.
I understand your points Jak but until Homey sees it a different way, he's on the team eating up over a million bucks in cap space.
