Hasek is an all time great, that being said I do not believe he would have the same aura about him if he played in the current landscape. Clutch and grab hockey was very kind to goalies. I think Hasek would have still been a hall of famer for sure now, but you can't lean on a goalie like that anymore. - Gunner Staal

I don't argue those numbers, but the team he played on did not need him the way the Sabres did. He was a complimentary piece who did his job great, behind an excellent skating team. The Red Wings were built right.
My point is that you can't have an also ran team like the Sabres and rely on the goalie to save the bacon anymore. It just can't happen anymore.
Look at Lundqvist's numbers now that his team is on the up and up. I don't think for a second he is any better this year than he has been in the past. He just has the appropriate help. He was always great. |

The problem with Miller..
He is an awesome goalie, however, I think that there is marital issues. He is a goalie in Buffalo NY, his wife is a HOT model in LA... I think that Miller sits in goal and can only think that while he is in net, his wife is getting hit on by every guy in LA.... does he trust her? Is he having visions of his wife getting down with the photographer? This isn't a smack on him or his wife.. its gotta suck not being able to see her. Guys, think about it, if you were away from your better half for most of the year, what would your thoughts be? Picture your better half sleeping with your best friend. I bet Miller is somewhat distracted because of this. - 7xTippet
who in thier right mind would get married and then not live together

somthing is messed up with that marrige
i give it a year or two, divorce is a commin or a trade out west

Thomas, Lundquist and a younger Brodure are elite. Organizations now focus on the team in front of a "good" goalie. |

He was with Ottawa for 05/06.
They were run and gun.
He had a .925 sv% that year too. |

I'm still trying to figure out how this whole bad season so far is Miller's fault? I know he's part of the problem but he's not the whole problem, let's not forget the crap that is playing in front of him. Turnovers, can't score, no back checking, lazy, no heart that's not all Miller's fault. |

They were responsible though too. Chara, Redden, Volchenkov, Phillips, and Meszaros made up a pretty good defense |

It was never his fault before because he always got a free pass.
I said at the begining of the season, his free pass has expired. The season rest solely on his shoulders. He buckled, move him. |

You know, as a non Sabres fan I don't think about that as much as time goes on, but holy sh*t, could he have butchered the franchise any more than he did in that one off season?
Losing both captains is bad enough, but then letting another GM negotiate the terms for your best player after that? All because you did not want to negotiate with ANYBODY on your roster until July 1. Then like you stated, he was forced into "proving" to the fanbase that he was indeed serious about keeping players, so he overpaid everybody that was left over from those teams.
And here we are 5 years later with the same guy in charge. |

I'm just speaking to how goalies can be successful these days.
Fleury was awesome during the Cup run. We lose Scuderi and Gill and do not replace them, his next season was terrible by his standards. We finally replace those two with Martin and Michalek and he is back to being pretty damn great again. You have to compliment the goalies these days. Which supports your argument, you probably don't need to pay a guy 6.25M/yr to play that position. |

Agreed.
If Nashville loses Weber and Suter for next year, watch Rinne's new deal blow up in Nashville's face. |

Dom loved the spotlight and came up big in big situations. He loved be top dog and thrived under pressure. But what I remember most was his parting shot, "this organization will never win a cup". Who was coach and gm? |
