yea we don;t need another leino....where we don't know how exactly fits best
- aschwach

I feel like we can't even accurately judge Leino because this team has been so much of a mess this year.

i think ryans natural postion is winger, i know we have a dire need for center but how many games in the past ten can you count that we scored more than 2 times. maybe twice. the two games we won. anything on offense will help us out right now. and yes the salaary cap is an issue so i am not sure on how the 2nd and or 3rd parts would work out

You need a center to feed the wingers the puck though. Now you're hoping that the likes of Jochen Hecht can help Ryan get it done. Or Derek "which bar am I going to" Roy.

Agreed. Some are all ready to write the book on Leino after 40 games! Roy and Stafford already had there chance! GOOD BYE Royzzzzz

agreed. lol on the original comment about Ryan being at all like Leino, even if it was only supposed to be a "he can't play center" comment.

I feel like moving Roy off of this team even just for prospects/picks is essentially addition by subtraction. I dislike him that much.

very true which is why getzlaf would be the better choice but right now we take what we can get. ryan is only 24 which means we have plenty of time to trade/draft/ bring armia up when hes ready. i know its not an instant impact like a number 1 center is but if we are this bad whats the harm in getting some more offense'

Vinny for Miller, I don't want to move Miller but a center helps. I would hate he's still in the east.

If Miller did demand a trade it may be hard to move him to the west coast, Kings are set as are the Sharks. The Ducks could be a match but Hiller would have to come back, he makes 4.5 mill unless the Ducks can move him to another team.
- SABRES 89

If Miller demands a trade, Reiger will let the bidding decide who gets him.
There are 4 fairly equal teams in the West, San Jose, Detroit, Vancouver and Chicago. Chicago is the only team that might need the goalie out of the four, but the other 3 will do what they can to influnece Buffalo not to trade Miller to Chicago or for that matter to LA or St Louis.

I could easily see Detroit make Buffalo an offer for Roy on the condition that they don't trade miller to one of their rivals....this is old style Sam Pollock managing that will come into play. Which by the way is the way that Brian Burke plays in the GM sandbox with his divisional rival GMs.

Detorit might say we will take Boyes and Roy off your hands and give you Bertuzi and Helm, or even Miller's brother as well, but on the condition that you don't trade Ryan to our rivals, chicago , SJ, or LA.

This type of move shakes up the sabres and protects the interests of Detroit;

To counter this a team like Los Angeles, who is more desperate to get into the top 4 than the others, is likely to dangle Jack johnson, Dustin Brown, J Stoll and their goalie for Miller and company (Boyes etc).

Everybody here always sells the value of the Sabres players short....Miller is still seen as very valuable and the time may be to trade him now or wait and trade Roy instead.

As an aside, I have to laugh at Brian Burke criticizing Reiger for overvaluing his players. Not one of us was prepared to pay Connolly any more than $2 million a year for the next 2 years; I suggested that he get signed for $3.1 million a year and was almost banned by all of you and then Burke goes and signs him to a contract worth more than what he was getting paid in Buffalo the prior two years at $4.75 million which is double what any of the rest of you were prepared to pay him and hardly a peep from anyone about it......so who overvalues the Sabres, Reiger or Burke.....Burke is posturing and will interfere in any deal Reiger has in mind that's why he would tell folks Reiger is difficult to deal with....heck he brought Dudley into the fold in Toronto, just so that he could prevent Dudley from coming to Buffalo as an associate GM or a possible replacement for Reiger....now Buffalo will have to get permission from Burke to even talk to Dudley

Reiger and the Sabres won't admit that this crap is going on, but behind closed doors they are cursing Burke and plotting a counter play.

By the way Burke would like Roy, but wouldn't give up schenn and Kadri to get him or would he?....so who overvalues their assets in that kind of a move?

im not saying they are the same, or even that Leino isnt good (after 40 games)..would we be getting a guy that might be a center, but really isnt suited for it

I'm with you. If I'm moving him, it's for the piece this team desperately needs. Moving him for a player that we already have an over abundance of just doesn't make sense. Darcy may not be the smartest, but he's also not a complete fool either.

This is their "franchise" guy. If they trade him, you can bet they're going to get a something better than a clone of the players we already have.

Again, I think he would be fine if he wasn't being put on the 4th line or asked to play a position he's not comfortable playing.

I just can't see all the hate for Miller, the team in front of him is horrible. Trading Miller to the Hawks does nothing for us, they are a bad trading partner.

There's 1 player I would want from there more than anything. And Miller isn't getting us that player, so I completely agree.

Speaking of St. Louis, I'd like to swap Derek Roy for Patrick Berglund. Berglund is younger and has more upside, but he's in a major slump and their patience for him is wearing thin, not unlike our situation with Roy.
- SabreHess

Patrick Berglund is very intriguing, but it would likely be Berglund and another quality prospect for Roy and perhaps someone like Weber. The Sabres have always liked Carlo Colaiacavo, so perhaps Berglund and Colaiacavo for Roy and Boyes (going back to st Louis) might work.
