I am also hearing Ryan Clowe may be in play for the Leafs, although it would take a lot to get him.

He is the exact type of player Burke would target.

I could only imagine the type of battles Clowe and Lucic would have.

- flyers2001

rather Clowe than Malone, which Cox is trying to stir up again. Cox being the guy who was so opposed to adding big slow players instead of smaller more skilled ones.

because we have seen a half season from in (actually not quite that) in the past two seasons

he isnt playing up to his compete level yet.. and probably wont until a full off-season of training

(similar to how it helped lupul along.. who didnt really begin to heat up last year until somewhere around his 50th game)

lombardi is about half way there with 26 games under his belt now

think about this, if I am right wouldnt it be nice to have a veteran leader who can play a solid third line game who happens to be just hitting his stride in time for the post season? (if the leafs make it)

I like my 3rd liners to have some different attributes ...more grit and hockey sense ...but that's personal taste. I haven't seen a good two-way game out of Lombardi ...did he ever have one? If so then maybe he plays his way back in. If the Leafs need some Cap Space though ...it's got to be an option.

Leafs are making a trade. You don't sit Schenn when you're showcasing him to trade. That de-values him as trade bait. Therefore, he is most certainly being traded. I'll have a full blog about this in 48 hours...... more to come.

Komi is not distracted by shiny objects in the stands.

Komi's problem is that the lower lights make his shadow look really big; Lucic-sized even.

I have honestly had it with the way Ron Wilson has handled Luke Schenn. It is a joke. If he gets traded, he is going to play the big minutes he deserves and be an amazing defenceman. Here he gets benched when he makes the most minor errors, and plays much less than he should. I've always thought his offensive game is underrated too, he gets pucks to the net and makes smart passes. The fact that Wilson constantly plays Komi over him, even after a billion of errors is just rediculous.
- dionschenn

I couldn't agree more... and because Gardiner was the golden boy early on... Schenn often left with the short end of the stick with regard to defensive zone coverage.

I said back prior to the last draft that the Leafs should have done whatever they possibly could to rid themselves of Komisarek... because his contract would negatively effect Schenn's then upcoming negotiation. Now he's simply taking a roster spot and 4.5M CAP space from players who could better fill it.

I've been a big fan, sometimes in awe of Burke's trades.... but his FA signings have stunk.

From what I've been told, the Leafs scratching Kadri is not because of a trade. Schenn on the other hand may be a different story.

I would guess that, yes.
I would also guess that neither are coming to Toronto.

lombardi is a very good two way forward.. but he's still full of rust.. and it shows..

i hope the next CBA addresses this very thing for long term injuries.. guys like Lombardi should be allowed to go work out the kinks on the marlies for more than 3 games after being out for a year. there should be some sort of sliding scale implemented for this.

problem is.. if someone does decide to take a risk on lombardi's uninsurable body and lombardi takes off after 50+ games it would be the leafs left with egg on their face

I don't think Clowe would cost as much as some of the names being thrown around. (Ryan, JVR)

Getzlaf, Parise, Nash, Doan are not being traded.

different story in that he's not confirmed scratched yet, and Komi may be instead?
