Here is how I see it right now.. He still sits back to far for my liking.. he drops too soon, but both are much better than they were last year.. He has GREATLY improved his puck handling, and of late has made a few beautiful passes to streaking forwards..

Do I think he is a a true starting goalie right now..IDK. A 65 game starter? No. A 50 game guy.. sure, I think he can handle that.. but he will probably struggle a bit... He is also much better than his fellow tender right now.

And conversely, Bobrovsky probably plays the best game of his NHL career vs. the Isles, then gets benched Saturday.

if bob were a pitcher, his babip against would be like .800

imo, he's showing technical improvements from last year - both in stopping and playing the puck, not to mention that's he's been very good/great in most games playing sporadically. to me, that shows mental toughness and preparation and i think it lends itself to translating as a starter. he showed he can play well for long stretches last year (but wore down - 1st nhl campaign, rookie, etc, etc, etc).

i'm not saying i want bob to be our starter long term and to give up on bryz.

- hammarby31

he certainly has built up a certain level of trade value...

So what do we do if Bob fails? We have to go back to a number #1 goalie like Bryzgalov who has been demoted to the bench for some time? Thats really going to get his game going along with his confidence.
- stveshdy

Bryz has had many chances to get his streak going again. He has failed. Bob has shown that he can do it. Right now, all I care about is winning. NJ is catching up, and NYR we've been lucky that they've lost when we've lost. Right now, our best chances of winning are with Bob in net. Plain and simple. If he has a bad game. Play him one more time, and if he loses, then you switch. Yes it's not pretty, but I have ALOT more faith in Bob ATM than I do Bryz.

Unfortunately, with the way Bryz has played this year, you can't afford to trade Bob this season.

You'd have to wait until the off-season to consider such a deal, IMO.

I asked this earlier in the week but I don't think I ever got a response.

Similar to the Pronger situation, does it make sense for JVR to repair the hip/other lower-body injuries now that he is resting for the concussion? Or do these specific lower-body injuries require much longer recovery times than a concussion might?

i don't want to trade him either. deep down, i think i actually do want bob as our starter down the line, in part, because he's home grown, undrafted to boot. i've liked his game, work ethic and attitude from day 1.

Flyers do not have enough size and grit to play that type of game if you are suggesting they need to be more physical. I actually think they are in pretty good shape and just going through a mid season stretch. The top line is getting a lot of defensive attention. The other lines have stepped up pretty well, especially the young guys, they are going to be fine.

The Flyers have plenty of size and grit on their roster.

I agree with that perspective. I was at the game in Ottawa where the Senators came back from being down 4-2. I thought the Flrers were strong and highly skilled during the first two periods. I thought the Senators just out worked them in the third period. In the end I thought this would not have happened if the Flyers had had one big body to clear the front of the net.
- spatso

The Flyers lost that game in the 3rd period due to poor puck management and bad decision making. Having one big body to clear the front of the net, wouldn't have changed anything. Make smart decisions, and get the puck deep, and check well defensively, and the Flyers win the game.

if they could get leighton thru waivers, he could do just as good against the islanders and bottom feeder teams that bob has played.

bob has a wow factor cuz he is very quick and is constantly moving and hoping around, complete opposite of bryz who is big and plays angles to make the net very small.

bob reminds me of nitty his first 2 years

Surgical intervention is required.

Team defense needs to greatly improve in order to compete with the elite.

Unfortunately, his play hasn't warranted him the option of playing that many games. It's now mid-January and Bryz's grace period is over. It's too late to try to re-establish Bryz as the starter by default. He's going to have to earn it through his play.

If Bob is the best option right now, he gets the start.

- bradleyc4

Couldn't agree more. Time to put the teams needs first.

I get that. But if the surgery required a 1-month healing period, then I'd have no problems with him having that surgery and effectively resting 1 month to recover from both a surgically-repaired hip and also recovering from concussion-symptoms.

with lavys hybrid lock system do you believe that no matter who we could bring in would help our current problems of not clogging the neautral zone?

is our d a victim of the system?

wonder how much of that comfort level comes from not having to be the man.

Just wanted to say something while sifting thru yesterdays thread. Im surprised at all the Carle hate that has continued this yr. If you honestly feel Carle is struggling, or can't compete since he doesn't have Pronger to lean on, you really aren't paying attention to the fine details in Carle's game. Hes having an outstanding yr and has had very few poor games. He's a very close 2nd behind Timonen as our best dman this yr. A case could even be made he's been their best w his defensive stick work and outlet passing.

Step up your game peeps. Carle will get a hefty raise nxt yr. I hope we find a way to keep him for affordable money

If it is a CAM impingement.. you are looking at 3+ months if they want it fixed permanently .

Homer should be able to address the team needs in the draft, with the way Bryz and the D are playing I dont see the flyers doing anything this year

We are assuming that Bob will be able to carry the load. Im not against Bob getting a chance but people cant expect Bryzgalov to step in when asked and be spectacular. The guy is use to playing a ton of games not one or two a week. Like people say "sometimes the grass looks greener on the other side".
