The thing that killed me is, JvR has a good slap shot, but he hardly has time to get it off in game action.

It's like playing a guy at fullback because he has a great arm. How often is a Fullback going to throw the ball?

- Jsaquella

the way they block shots now is tough to find time, remember Barber used to have an awesome PP slapper for a while, (I remember them using him at the point for a while), but a different era when they didn't block shots as much, esp with the crappy equipment they had

Exactly. By the time JvR is through scraping the ceiling of the arena on his back swing, there's a defenseman ready to block his shot

yeah, he's gotten that wind up off a few times on the wing, (as well a s Hartnell), & as enjoyable as it is to see it, simply no time to do it during a zone scrum or PP.

I also remember Barber used to get his slapper off with a 1/2 windup as well, and a lot of steam on it.

Reverse Psychology huh. Is it working yet?
- stveshdy

Well, I ragged on JVR last season and it helped a bit. I ragged on Simmonds earlier this season and it helped. Didn't work for Bartulis though. And Shelley is beyond hope at this point.

It takes far more then just having the ability to shoot the puck hard to have a good shot from the PP. It involves a lot of things. Being able to shoot it accurately. Knowing when to shoot and not to. Positioning for a one timer, and putting it on net. Some are gifted at it and can pick it up quick. JVR has the raw skills in that he has a nice hard shot. And the Flyers are trying to develop that part of his game. And trying to find time for all it's skilled forwards on the PP. It doesn't seem to be working out. But apparently the Flyers have a lot of patience there.

Barber could get off his shot as fast as Bob Kelly could throw punches.

which also might explain why Mez hasn't been back there as often, but I'd like for them to try using him more

Sami Salo is an excellent example of this. Plus he has the hard shot.

Just amazing how ordinary the Canucks seem to become when glass slipper is out of the lineup.

Leach was always known more for his cannon shot than Barber, but Barber was just maybe a better point man, savvy wise, for the PP.

Leach's shot was simply overpowering. Barber's was good, but it wasn't as big or fast as Leach's. But Barber was a better all around player. He even played defense for a year or so, late in his career

I would have thought him to be the very last Canuck going into that corner with Marchand

the result was predictable

I think what everyone would like to see is how does bobrovksy stack up against Bostons, Chicagos etc. For that matter you have a game against Boston Next week, is it a big deal to start him? If he plays the way he has against them then fine, but if not its time to put the Bob vs Bryz stuff to bed and focus on what needs to be done in order to get Bryzgalov going.

Looking at the cap, he (Voracek) would likely on cost an additional 500-750k from what he is already making now.. dont see his signing being a hindrance on others.
- jak521

I'm in the boat that we need to resign Voracek. He's a hell of a hockey player... he might not be putting up monster numbers, but i feel he's been pretty good game in and game out...

Very. The guy could have his man get checked in NHL12 and miss 5 games.

Is that your answer to everything? Lets just poop on the player and he hasnt even played a full season yet, makes sense to me.

has he played well enough to earn praise?

Normally when i rag on Carle/Carter during a game they wind up scoring or doing something great....

I live in a world of instant karma...

I'm confident that he get's resigned. They're not going to let him go, barring any kind of trade.

I didnt say you have to praise him. But to simply rip the player and poop all over him is ridiculous when he hasnt even played a full season yet, imo. People are saying his contract is terrible and were not even done year one yet, I find that 2funny.

I think if he just does a better job of getting in the dangerous areas of the ice, he'll take off.
