now that jvr's on the shelf, maybe he'll get a look.

When you think about it what does it say that JvR has been getting more opportunities on the PP at the point then Mezzy?

So close to what we pay Giroux? I think Voracek has been pretty good... but I dont see him as a 3.5 mil a year player yet. I could see them giving him a 3 year 9.5 mil deal
- jak521

That's Giroux's 2nd contract.

Jake will be on contract #3.

it says, i don't understand what the coach is (frank)ing thinking, especially when he's shown zero improvement when being used in that capacity.

So why would the coach choose to play JvR over Mezzy then?

"whole 'nother level" was fine. Colloquialism. I was raised hearing it and use it myself.

But I can appreciate where you're coming from.

Maybe, but you also have to look at his time in Phoenix. The Coyotes didn't have a Bobrovsky, they had LaBarbera. Bryz got most of the time.

The way for him to keep his head in the game is to be in the game, it seems. Why not give it a go?

- tangent_man

Honestly, they have been giving it a go. If they ride him and it will improve his play, I'm all for it. But right now, it's not the decision I would be in favor of.

JvR with a hip injury and concussion I guess is better at playing the point on the PP then a healthy Meszaros.

We talked about this before many times and how the NHL salary structure works. Giroux is on his first deal out of his EL deal. If Giroux was to resign right now, what would he get? Is JVR a 4.25M player next year? Is he a player this year, that warrants a 4.25M deal? So why did he get it? Voracek isn't going to sign a multi year deal for a paltry raise.

NHL salaries are not black and white in comparing players and how good they are compared to each other.

Doesn't matter. JvR hasn't shown he isn't any good at the position. On top of that, if a forward is pressured on the point, they are normally prone to mistakes. Meszaros is a defenseman.

Me to. I think the idea of having JvR on the point is great but the results say the opposite. I also dont understand why you would want him at the point and not at forward in front of the net. He is a big power forward who takes up space down low. Makes no sense to have him at the point, imo.

i'm more concerned about him being a defensive liability in that situation than him getting shots on net. i don't get it.

JVr should be in front of the net or down low learning how to be the power forward he's supposed to be

i missed the game and didn't dvr it. forgot. wanted to see how he and suter specifically played, for obvious reasons.

would be great to have a legit threat from the blueline on the pp. other teams know we're not going to shoot. doesn't keep them honest.

- hammarby31

I'd like to see Mez shoot more, but again, he's not as accurate as we'd like either, but he can shoot hard

The last time he got more than 3 starts was the beginning of December when he got 6 - all wins. Bobrovsky got the next start and won in Montreal and Bryz was back the next game (the 6-0 drubbing at the hands of the Bruins in which he was pulled). Since then it's been a couple/few games and then Bob gets one or two. Laviolette's habit has been swapping them out after a loss.

Let Bryzgalov come back in after a loss. He says he needs to play, and it can't hurt to try it. It's still relatively early enough to see if it works.
