Homer's got some tough decisions to make. Do you not bolster the D and write off this year to some extent or do you give up some picks for a temporary fix/rental player or make a big deal to get help back there if Suter is available?

I say a small deal to bring in a depth rentalor two, take our chances and go hard after UFA or a deal to fix the d permanently in the offseason.

To me it's imperative that we make the playoffs even if only to get some experience for the young players. Cooter, Schenn, Jake et al will benefit immeasurably.

Unless I've got a favorable deal for lasting help on the back end, I probably don't make any move until the offseason. I agree it's important to get this team a taste of the playoffs, but I wouldn't be afraid to let them work through a bit of adversity.

If the deal is really low cost, like a late round pick, maybe I consider picking up a bandage on the defense.

I feel they will make the playoffs without making any deals. Even with as bad as they have played the past week or so, they still are winning more than they're losing

Discounting the Winter Classic game, the Flyers pattern for the month of January has been to win 2 lose 1. So with the loss to the Preds out of the way, we'll be good for the next couple before losing to the Devils.

On the flip side though, we'll beat the Bruins and Panthers before losing to the Jets again.

If it's a guy like Beauchemin or Gleason that could be re-signed for a few years and isn't much more than a 2nd & middling prospect, I'd do it.

I wouldn't go nuts and shoot for Weber right now, unless they could get him for a lower price than I'd expect, which is at least two or three players and a couple of top picks.

That is nuts.

My issue is can the Flyers trade now for a Beauchemin or a Gleason. Resign him. And still make a splash for someone like Suter. As well as do the other things they need to do.

As long as we don't hit anymore crippling injuries, I agree, but we certainly ar not in the clear to make it.

Speaking of playoffs, guess who's now dropped to 9th and out of a playoff spot. Your friendly neighbourhood Leafs.. I knew JR's OT goal in 04 was special, just didn't know it would spell 7 going on 8 years of no playoffs for the Laffs.

Just imagine if the Flyers went on a run of futility like that?

How is this for a package...

JvR, Simmonds, 1st, 3rd for Weber.

So much for size at wing

I think Gleason is the guy if the Flyers are trying to add a defenseman. I wouldnt mind giving up a second and a player for a 28yr old defenseman who I would be looking to resign. If the deal is too expensive then you dont make the trade, that simple from the Flyers side.

I think a lot depends on the future of Pronger, which looks realllly bleak.

Easy. If Carolina says they want a 2nd, 4th or 5th and a player thats too much.

If you can get him for a pick and a player currently on the Phantoms, you do it.

I just saw in a report on Betts "Center Blair Betts, sidelined with a knee injury all season, skated before practice again and said he hopes to play this season."

If he can play up to his former ability... This might not be a bad thing. We could use his help with the PK and in the faceoff dot. Their has been a lot of press on Giroux and Jagr being cold - I'd throw Talbot into that category as well. Harryz/Rinaldo with Talbot and Betts as the four line. Move Coots up to third line, see if Schenn could play wing.

With JVR out...
Hartnell - Giroux - Jagr
Read - Briere - Voracek
Schenn - Couturier - Simmonds
Talbot - Betts - Zolnierczyk/Rinaldo

He did to Toronto only to be informed that JvR has a concussion. Im sure his bike ride back was not a happy one.

That situation (Weber) could play out like a circus, I'm still in awe how he erased anyone & everyone who skated on his side of the ice, with ease,
plus he's so consistent with his goal output every year as well

He & Rinne were hands down dominant the other night against us

Thing some people forget is that Nashville is still in the hunt and playing well. Don't see them blowing it up at this point by trading Suter or Weber. I say they'll make their run, and could possibly trade Suter's rights before UFA if they can't re sign. Fans would not be happy seeing them trade one of their stud d while they are in the thick of it. I'd be furious if the Flyers did it.

For me..Beauch or Gleason at a good price..Gill if he's dirt cheap and let's see how we stack up.

Betts is a long way from being able to play. He's still not doing any cuts or quick stops and merely trying to skate for longer periods of time (been doing short skates for awhile). If he plays, I suspect it'd be only in playoffs when no cap or waivers applies. Would benefit him to show he's healthy enough for TC tryout somewhere and would benefit Flyers if he could be avail as depth PK/faceoff specialist. But that's still a longshot. His status is unchanged, really.
