from espn

It looks like New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello is at least looking at how much Zach Parise would fetch on the trade market, if it comes to it. The Ottawa Sun's Bruce Garrioch writes, "League sources say Lamoriello has been gauging what Parise could fetch, but hes in a difficult spot because the Devils are in the thick of a playoff race and it would be tough to trade an impact player for prospects."

Parise is an impending unrestricted free agent and without a contract in place, Lamoriello can't be faulted for looking at his options. But the Devils are likely trying with some urgency to get a deal done, and Parise has said -- at least publicly -- that he wants to re-sign. However, it's possible Parise wants to explore free agency before he makes any decisions, at which point many people feel the Minnesota Wild would be a contender to last the star forward, since Parise is a native.

Bolded reasons why false.

You don't think we need another good defenseman?
- Pomegrant

First off, I love that show!!.......second, yes we could use another defenseman named Ryan Suter or Shea Weber but if it's not a top1/2 then I say we go with what we have. I really believe Urbom will be good along with Jon Merrill and I believe Urbom will be ready next year. With veterans Greene, A-Train and Tallinder signed next year (Foster and Salvador are UFA) along with young guys like Fayne, Larsson and Taormina (maybe Urbom,Corrente) the backend is kind of full unless Lou makes some trades.

Agreed. Would only add a D man if it is a top pair guy. We have enough 2nd paring D men.

Marty is a product of a trapping system.

Also, Bryzgalov was good before they were trapping in Phoenix.

Hey all kinda new I signed up a long time ago but never really come on to comment, but I like reading the articles. Todd you are doing a fantastic job. The reason I came on here today to comment was because I found the Devils goaltender of the future.
http://www.nj.com/devils/..._nhl_for_devils_mart.html I got it from the New Jersey Devils blog on facebook. We just need to wait some time because he is only 16, but 15-2-1 is a pretty good state line.

Lou made the system and put players into it and we became winners. Marty is obviously great but he is also from a trapping system. Marty needed his team as much as his own skills to be successful.

i agree with your opinion that if marty comes back we should get a younger goalie like harding to be a stopgap and see how that works. Even if marty does retire i think we shouldnt re-sign the moose and get younger in net.

I know we are missing some key players, and have played a bunch of games in a short period, but we did have some trouble scoring against weaker teams and hopefully we dont go back to that, scoring 2 goals vs edmonton and the jets isnt exactly a confidence boost, it was very good that we came out with the wins (especially regulation vs jets) but we need to get our lines going for when we face harder teams and better defensive teams

kovy played a great game, he was noticeable almost everytime he had the puck and made some nice passes, especially to tallinder before or maybe it was salvador (who steve called samalela (sp) or it sounded like that)

larsson

lets keep on winning

Just thought I would visit and get some insight from the fine Devils faithful on how they plan on passing the Flyers in the standings Someone will blow a nut if/when that happens There was too much football chat on "The other Side" if you know what i mean. I'll visit there later

well if they keep having goalie problems we may pass them for a short time but they will finish ahead of us as we are not as deep and dont score as much

all i know is i will be a happy camper when/if we make the playoffs, delighted if we can win a series and anything more will just be fantastic

but larsson is going to be great

Why the Devils lead the NHL in shootout wins - Brodeur, (although Hedberg has been great last 2 years) and Elias and Parise playing every year with the shootout.

this year hedberg seems to get most of his wins via shootout

good and bad, dont like due to tie breaker and giving up a point

like coz we get the extra point

Kovalchuk is something like 6 for 7 in shoot-outs. He has been better than Elias and Parise this year in those.

meaning what tho? we were discussing Byrzgalov and how he was in a trapping system in phoenix and now look at him.. and Smith who wasn't great in Tampa but went to a trapping Phoenix and is now as good as Byrz! so when someone says Brodeur is a product of the trapping system.. i went to prove that without the trap, he was still amazing- unlike Byrzgalov.

I still think Byrz is a great goalie.. he's had some phenomenal games, idk what the deal is with Philly and goaltenders.
