I guess I was too busy watching Giroux to Jagr to Hartnell, back to Giroux, he scores

Or mabe watching Bob make another huge save, Carle is just average and does not excite me that much.

Carle is a well above average player. Which will be indicated when and if he hits Free Agency.

Where have you been since Pronger was signed here? Pronger and Carle had beeen paired together most of the time since Pronger became a flyer. It is a fact that Carle played his best hockey when he was paired with Prongs. That is when Pronger first came and was healthy.

"He just is out of place when not paired with a star like Pronger." -flyerdude17

They need a replacement for Pronger long term if he isn't going to play again. And if Carle isn't going to be back, they need a replacement for him long term.

Stating the obvious once again. The man just pointed out why the d is just average when you have a Carle as a premiere dman on your team. (We all know Kimmo is that right now but Messy and Cobs could be better too)

Go after Luke Schenn, he will be like a young Harold Snepts if any of you remember him.

The Defenseman as a whole aren't average. They are above average. Carle is a very good defenseman playing at a high level. As is Timonen. Coburn and Meszaros are capable of playing well. I'd like to see a team committed to team defense, manage the puck well, backed up by top goaltending, and then see how "average" the defenseman are.

As a Flyerfan what do you think the team needs to address at this time. The deadline is six weeks away and I prefer to move early is moving at all. The pricing at the deadline sometimes becomes a bidding war. Who do you think should be starting in goal right now for the best interest of the team?
- flyerdude17

I would like the Flyers to acquire a depth defenseman. A guy who can provide some sandpaper while playing on the third pair and kill some penalties. Anything big I would like to see them acquire in free agency instead of giving up assets now.

They are not going to win the cup this year and I don't think anyone realistically believed that from the very beginning. Blowing up the team to acquire a player they can get as a UFA makes no sense and would be counter productive to what they were trying to do by trading Richards and Carter.

I agree, free agency has it's suckers allright. Imagine signing Ville Leino to a monster contract. Ditto Matt Carle

How did Leino turn out? I remember you defending him with your life last year.

They are just average. If they were above average there wouldn't be so many deflections. With prongs=above avg.

You don't remember anything. What ever I said about Leino and how I judge him was the same for any player. With objectivity to make an informed opinion. Using Leino as an example to discredit Carle is an extremely weak argument.

Give me a break, speaking of retarded somehow I think there is a guy on Philly.com that calls himself by the same name as you. Are you related? Or is that you?
- flyerdude17

So you are telling me you are one of those retards who believe the Flyers did not do their due diligence on Bryzgalov and are somehow surprised with his personality and demeanor with the media? Really?!

You are telling me that somehow we as a whole, on a small message board, knew exactly what the Flyers were getting in terms of his personality and the Flyers didn't? Ill say it once again....give me a break.

And yes, I'm the same guy on Philly.com saying the same things here that I say there. And I will call out stupid reporting and stupid comments wherever I see them.

When a team is working at both ends of the rink and those forwards are backchecking as hard as they try to score that is going to make the dmen and the goaltenders jobs much easier. We have a lot of forwards that do not do this without mentioning names. If they all backchecked like Talbot and had skill like Roo this team would not even need to address the D. We do need a dman who is tough and can play. For the short term I would take a shot at acquireing Souray from Dallas.

Claude Giroux has been one of the biggest culprits in the team defensive breakdowns in the last month or so.

If other things don't improve, unless they get a true replacement for Pronger, don't expect huge changes as far as crease clearing is concerned.

I don't see the point in knocking Carle when he's arguably been the team's 2nd best defenseman this season. We have enough defensive team issues as is, and he isn't exactly the problem.

Coburn needs to improve his game dramatically IMO. He has blown several coverages in the past week or so, and we NEED him to start clearing the porch. With Prongs out, he is know our biggest defenseman and he needs to start playing like it. I want to see one of those Coburn mean streaks in the near future. It's long overdue.

Meszy has really stepped it up over the past month or so, and I applaud his efforts. However, the team as a whole needs to really clamp down and play better, smarter defense. The forwards included.

We can't expect our attack to score 4-5 goals a night, especially when our top line is out of sync.

i'm cool as long as they go one of two ways: 1) youth movement, don't trade away assets/ stay the course or 2) trade draft picks or prospects for defense help and make a run at the cup.

IMO if they can get bryz going at a high level and acquire 1 or 2 defensive dmen they can compete with boston. otherwise stand pat and do something this franchise is not accustomed to..... draft

Either he is feeling under the weather from the concussion, or more likely, he is probably just going through a "valley" that many players go through over a long season. We should all remember that as has been brought up before, Giroux is not that big a guy and playing as hard as he wants to play night in and night out will wear on you and wear you down.

Ill chalk it up to that.

To be fair you also said there is no way the Flyers would trade Carter.
