And what about the players that need to be resigned.. with some sort of raise? You know... that kid... Price? and Subban ?

But I think I'm getting it now. The cap is not important anymore.. so we shouldn't have any problems getting those new contracts to fit in.. and it also means that we shouldnt b!tch anymore about Kaberlol's cap hit and Gomez's hit.

Thanks for clearing it up.

*cheers for the Yotes*

No, it means that trading to free up cap space is not a reason to make a trade. Sure the Habs save about $2.7M in the trade... for what? What are they gonna use that on? What is that $2.7M savings gonna buy the Habs to make them better? Who is the great hope of a player that will come in and save the day for $2.7M? What player even wants to come to Montreal, that would be actually worth $2.7M (rather than overpay a player to that salary to get them here)?

Nothing. No one.

So I do not see the cap savings as being a benefit to this trade.

That is my point.

In fact, the Habs should be taking on 1-2 year bad contracts to get extra picks for them, when trading off their expiring contracts.

As for Price and PK, the Habs already have enough flex to manage their new contracts with a little tweaking and / or expiring contracts. This trade really changes nothing in that regard.

Look what's happening after half a season of sucking. Now imagine a few years of that.
Besides, as bad as they are right now it's not bad enough, they need to get rid of Price for this to work.

I don't know, keep Subban, Price, Gorges and Pacioretty, trade all veterans for picks, fill the rest with Bulldogs... should finish nice and low for 2-3 years

This excuse was tremendous. He was wrong because he was updating his blog because he always does when actual news happens...like the other day, when Scott Arniel was fired...and there wasn't a new blog for two hours.

Is anyone still not in favor of liquidating the veteran core and rebuilding through the draft
- CH1909-2009

That's why I didn't like the trade...

I think at the deadline the Habs could have gotten a better, younger return. Cammalleri would have been one of the really good, available pieces this deadline.

If you are going to liquidate the vertan core, which obviously needs to happen, for the most part at least, then you do so at the most opportune time.

Fair enough.

I just happen to think the Habs will always play close to the cap... someone will be overpaid somewhere or Gomez will just re main on the roster.

And I don't think the Habs have the mentality to tank, unfortunately, when it comes to the people who make the decisions.

They just kinda tank by default with bad sending. And hence, they even fail at tanking.
