Only reason Gomez isn't already gone is that they are hoping for a clause in the new CBA that will allow them to buy-out penalty free. If he manages to pick it up in the next couple of months, then they might try to get him gone through re-entry, but even that would cost too much against the cap imo. - kev1586
I am not sure, but I believe there are only certain points in the year you can buy out a player (or under specific conditions). If the Habs wanted to buy out Gomez, they would have to wait for that window. I do not believe you can buy out players whenever you want.
I wonder if there will be an amnesty on buying out contracts this time around. Will be interesting to see... good point.

love how Melnick is pleading with the world to understand this trade as well as he does.
apparently he's the only one who doesn't completely hate it. |

Does this look better? I'm just asking because this would seem the most probable lineup on Sunday... |

Is Pleks ever gonna get some decent wingers?
FFS, I am starting to think the Habs management teams hate him. |

I have two thoughts after reading this. I would defiently trade Markov for Crosby and they obviously need to bring Recchi in for a consult. |

I doubt it. the last time around it was becasue they were going from no ca to a cap and teams had to find ways to fit in.
Not so sure this time. |

Congratulations EE for your best piece yet. It is precise and to the point. You did not pull any punches, you called it like it is. You asked the $10 million question that only Geoff (I'm clueless) Molson can answer.
How many more moves will he be permitted to make? Probably more cause Molson is clueless! |

Thank you, and yes, I did say they are HOPING. If I were the players, I'd say HELL NO to that happening. The players will already be getting screwed in terms of their percentages going down, the owners will have to give in somewhere. |

Agreed.
But if the Habs do not ship out guys with expiring contracts like Moen, Gill, Campoli, etc... for picks, then I am not sure this trade even matters, as the Habs will be rolling in the same poop again next year, just delaying the inevitable another year.
The only thing the Cammy trade really gives the Habs is the ability to buy out Gomez, and have the buyout + Bourque's salary about equal to Cammy's total cap hit, and hence, have no real impact to the cap from a status quo perspective..
Not the best way to use/manage cap, but a way to make it palatable to manage a Gomez buy out.
If there is something to cheer about it might just be that. - JDJ
That may happen but with the new CBA coming - I believe we will see an Amnesty clause ala the NBA - so we get rid of Gomez without effecting our cap

My understanding is that he can't play Saturday against Ottawa and then he's good to go. |

1 of Darche, Blunden, or Noke will likely sit regularly, Habs will go with 7D for the rest of the year - at least until they can trade a few of them. |

That would be a huge mistake... especially given there are so many others that need to go first. |

If Plekanec is traded and we're not getting at least a first rounder back, the media will destroy PG. If ever this were to occur, it would have to be at the deadline if ever the Habs were so far out that they couldn't even dream of pulling a New Jersey. |
