Yeah could not stand him and then he went to the Rangers. Right there is a reason not to out him in the Hall of Fame but they induct almost everyone. In fact I think I should be in the Islander Hall of Fame as the guy who complains alot about them.
As for the game, I thought the Islanders looked good, unfortuantely Grabner still does not know how to bury a break away. It looks more and more though that Tavares is getting frustrated and that is not a good sign.
Nabby should sit after giving up 2 bad goals. I will say this about the team though, they do look a lot better lately and I do feel we are on the cusp of competeing in this league. The guys are playing together and show some energy. Hopefully it stays - kasperrko
if you wore the jersey and have a pulse, you get into the Isles Hall of Fame. Its sad. Nobody outside of Palffy, and maybe Kenny Jonsson who played on the post-dynasty teams deserve to be inducted into the team Hall of Fame. Next thing you know, they'll be inducting Mark Lawrence and Joe Reekie into the Isles HOF. |

you guys realize that they are basically just trying to tribute one player for each decade the Isles have been in existance right? Westfall was for first decade, Kenny Morrow was for second, Flatley for 3rd and Kenny johnsson will be for 4th. do you have a better candidate for the 90's then Flatley?
Flatley is 11th all time on Islander points list. The only other guy I can even think about for that time period is maybe Derek king. seriously.. who esle would u guys pick?

To me, again going by the distant camera angle they showed, the initial point of contact appeared to be the head, and with a forearm. If that's the case, I think it's automatic, regardless of injury.
edit - if someone has a better angle that shows the hit wasn't as high as it looked to me, then I take it back and agree there won't be a suspension. - UIF
If Staios gets suspended for that hit, we need to see about 40 games in 'back suspensions' issued to Niklas Kronwall. Staios arm came up on the follow-through but it appeared to me that at the point of collision the arm was down. Talbot then played possum until it became apparent the refs weren't going to call the police.
That said, we all know that Colin Campbell is in the shadows behind Shanny motioning "two" . The hit was borderline in the 2012 NHL so it wouldn't shock me at all if they at least call Staios about it. I don't believe he's ever been suspended before so he's not a repeat offender. That said, given the "Islander" factor...I'll say he gets a game

Like I said, if I'm wrong about the initial point of contact, then I agree there shouldn't be a suspension. I only saw what the replays showed, which was not much. But regardless of the (over)reaction by Talbot, if it turns out the head is the initial point of contact, I'm pretty sure that's about as automatic as it gets. |

Flyers fans are asking for blood. This is a difficult call (IMO) because Staios brings his arm up after contact and Talbot went down like he was shanked. Problem is there is no camera angle that clearly shows where the contact occurred. |

I think that his game is rounding out well.
He is never going to be a scoring dynamo, but, and the defensive side of the games needs a little more time, but he is on pace for 20pts and a 4th liner, and leads the team and league in hits. He will drop the mits with anyone in the NHL, and can change the flow of a game with his physical play.
Ultimately, he is a roll player, but he is the kind of roll player all great teams need.
This might be reaching, but at this moment in time he reminds me of a poor mans Kris Draper. He may never get the production of Draper, but he is beginning to do the things it takes to succeed and help his team win. |

The fact that they let that pile of s**t wear #9 makes me sick. Worse than when they let Chyzowski wear #9. |

That's the point. Why do they need to honor someone from each decade? Truthfully, nobody past the 80's really deserves to be honored. There were no special teams or superstars on any teams after the 80's that warrant team HOF induction. A team's HOF should be just like the hockey HOF: simply being the best among a pile of s**t shouldn't be enough to warrant entry. Being truly elite among the sports (or in this case, the team's) history of players should be required. Letting Flatley and Jonsson into the team's HOF cheapens it, in my opinion.
Look at the drop-off in caliber of player from Gillies, Bossy, Potvin, etc. to...Flatley? Jonsson? Come on. Its not even close. |

Talbott is such a dirty player. He will board someone the next game. My favorite is how he was laying on the ice like he was hurt. He still did not get the call so he got up. I was at the game yelling "When did the Broadstreet bullies start playing soccer?" They were flopping all over the ice.. joke. - niteislander
i dont feel bad for talbot where it was head shot or not. he got a taste of his own medicine and good redemption for his dirty hit on Comeau.
If he wasnt so full of sh-t, maybe people would have believed he was hurt. Cant be the boy that cries wolf. |

Was LaFontaine an Islander in the 90's or had he moved onto to Buff and the NYR by then? I know the front office will not acknowledge him now but he should, he was a great Islander. |

Grabner's backhander was spectacular. He just needs to fake the shot first to freeze the goalie. Even without the fake shot it took one heck of a save by Bob. The penalty shot he just put it into his waffle... He needs to get better at this or we have another Claude Lapoint on our hands. - niteislander
More like Jason Blake........more looks but cant finish. There's a reason both Vancouver and Florida gave up on a first rounder like Grabner. Yes he's fast......but he CANNOT finish. A breakaway and a penalty shot........isles win that game if he buries those.

That is SO not true. 13 years with the team, a home grown talent drafted in the first round. 488 points, former capt, one of the best players this team has ever seen along the boards. Flats was one great Islander.

Its not about winning championships. Lots of guys get into sports HOF's who haven't won. Its about being an elite player. Jonsson and flatley were decent players, no way were they of a talent level of guys like Gillies, Trots, Bossy, etc. Their impact on the franchise was miniscule. Why would they need to be inducted into the team HOF? |

I know we will probably disagree on this one, but to me honoring Kenny Johnson is an absolute joke. Was he a good defensemen, yes..........(minus getting embaressed by St Louis in the playoffs) But, how do you honor a player who walks out of his contract with a year remaining?? I dont care what the reason is.........the key word here being HONOR. How is that honorable?

the craziest part about my original comment is that as horrendous as the officiating was last night, i had to include "quite possibly...." because we can find other horribly officiated games this season that could compete with last night atrocity. |
