They're doing it right now. If they had listened to the fanbase, JvR would have been gone two years ago.
- Jsaquella

I'm not saying the waiting game on a player like JvR, I am saying the waiting game on filling a clear need on defense. They don't wait around. Unless it was goalie for the past decade of course.

Hopefully Gustafsson plays tomorrow night. Laviolette shouldn't be fooled by the result last night. It took Bob standing on his head to get 2 points against the 15 seed in the East. LoLja's first period made me ill.
- PLindbergh31

Here is the thing tho, Is Lava ready to have a 3rd line pair of rookies? Prob not so id like to see Lilja and Gus and if Gus looks nice maybe just maybe they can persude Lava to get a 3rd line pair of Gus/MAB.

No way he comes cheap. He's still very young and one of the most promising players on their team. No way you get him for a 2nd and prospect.
- hereticpride

I think that the Habs might want Couturier for him. That's who I'd want.

Agreed. Personally, I don't want them to trade JvR for anybody, unless it's a deal that lands a proven stud defenseman.

But the discussion is about the rumor, and there's no harm in discussing it. Beats the goalie bullpoop.

- Jsaquella

Given ome of the silly things this org has done under holmger(Pronger over 35 contract), I wouldn't be suprised if they haven't even thought about the signing a player to a long term deal then trading him aspect.

i've been a supporter of lilja, but he had a bit of a rough game last night. it seemed like every time the puck was in the flyers end, he was on the ice.

i'd like to see gusty go.

In my opinion Giroux wasn't very good at all last night. And hasn't been for the last few games. But that's going to happen. He's not going to play at a high level offensively for all 82 games. No one does. I'm more concerned with the defensive side of the puck.
- MJL

G has definitely been very off for 4 games now. Possibility he is battling something?

Seems to me to be a drastic difference in his play.

They have had a legitimate need on defense since Pronger went out over a month ago. They haven't rushed into a deal yet. They very easily could have traded a second rounder and a guy like Zolnierczyk for Tim Gleason, but they haven't.

Is anyone considering the fact if JVR is traded soon after Carter and Richards were, how it would potentially deter guys from signing here? Trading 3 cornerstone players who had long term deals will make players think twice about it.

There is no need to trade JVR, if the price is reasonable go out and get Gleason, or Gill, if not stand pat, and go after Suter in the summer.

- PLindbergh31

I worry about us trading any of the youth we just acquired unless it's for other youth. That's why I don't see the Schenn thing as being out of the realm of possibility. Right now our strength is depth on O and we could conceivably trade some from there to bolster the D. One thing, although I am not advocating this, that I could see happening is that we could trade some high picks along with a forward for a young Dman. We're a very young team up front, and I could see Homer sacrificing this for a young D man. It's really all about the window to win. Is that going to be 2 or 3 years down the road?

It wasnt a good game last night. But they are in a real blah part of the season. Any kind of win is a positive. Things won't get ramped up a bit tip after the all star break. When is the trade deadline?

I would put Gusty with Mesz, and MAB with Carle.

I think they could do better, but I don't think it reeks of desperation. Luke Schenn's a good player with a very bright future. Burke's called him untouchable for a number of years, so it's obvious that he thinks the world of Schenn.

Desperation would be trading JvR for a guy like Beauchemin.

- Jsaquella

Yea.. i mean lowering your expected return to address a need now..

If its me trading JvR, I am using him as the meat to get a bigger better guy.. like MookaLook said..

If today was the trade deadline and someone told me that I HAD to trade JvR and get the best possible return.. I would look to package him for Pietrangelo

Yup.

That's all I have to say to that. I wish we could just get Beauchemin for a pick and be done with this already.

I think that they do think about it, but at the same time, expediency trumps the concerns.

They just overhauled the team, they are near the top of the standings, why change the dynamic? Leave it alone. Add a depth dman and call it a day.

Not saying I'd do it. Couturier, for me, would be a non starter, unless it's a star coming back.
