What is wrong with that stat? lol - Flyers2821
What does it have to do with anything?
JvR is a young developing forward.. Timonen is a 4x all-star defenseman who has played in nearly 1,000 games and was a steady 35-55 point guy for the majority of his career. |

Someone trading for JVR now is someone hoping to underpay for an injured player who will be more use to them in the future than this year, not someone willing to overpay for a piece that helps them mightily this year. - bodiva88
Giving up Schenn is not underpaying lol Just a few months ago he was a complete untouchable in their organization. |

Potential for potential seems to always have you wanting more in a deal for your team then you should get. (not you but in general) That seems to be what is happening here because Flyers fans are saying they would want more than just Schenn for JvR and Toronto fans are saying they would want more than just JvR for Schenn.
It's just a familiarity with the player on your roster - Flyers2821
That's why if it happens, it'll likely be a 1 for 1 deal. Or 2 for 2, if it expands. It won't be one for the other, plus a pick. |

It seems to me as Flyers fans are simply basing this trade off of what Schenn is right now. Everything involved in this trade is about the potential of what they can be.
I openly admitted I didn't know anything about Schenn but after reading up on what the professionals have to say about him and doing some research on him, it seems as though his potential is through the roof (like JvR) and he is struggling this season (like JvR). - Flyers2821
schenn tops out as a 2nd pair shutdown guy and JVR tops out as a 35-40 goal 1st line pwr forward...IMO, JVR has more upside/value |

The thing is, when you deal a 22 year old for another 22 year old, the deal becomes as much about potential as anything else. I think that JvR's ceiling is higher than Schenn's.
But, I also feel that Schenn has been more consistent in his career to this point. |

It's just a fun little fact. Who really cares? You get sports writers all over the place throwing out stats like that just because. |

Yup. I don't like the deal. We need a solid D man now. If we want a D man with potential then we should keep JVR and wait til the draft. |

By the Flyers.
Schenn's ceiling isn't as high as JvR's. At best, Schenn could be an OK top pair guy, but more likely he's a very good second pair guy. JvR could be a 220 lb winger that scores 30-35 goals. Those are more rare than second pair shut down guys. |

Plain and simple, if Burke comes to me proposing a Schenn for JVR trade, I tell him he has to give me more. If he doesn't like that, he knows where the door is. |

Keep jvr. Holmer should not make a move now on defense. Id rather he wait and see what we have in Gus for the rest of the season. If over the balance of the season. He believes and mab and gus have shown to be NHL caliber defenseman. Hang on to these guys to build a trade for a top d man in the league. With the position the flyers are in in the standings. No reason to be making moves. One thing has become apparent. Lilja is a complete mess back there. He should be an emergency player for them at this point |

Everything I have read about Schenn is that he tops out as a top pairing defenseman, accept here in this blog when people are talking about giving up JvR for him. |

Luke Schenn was the 5th pick in his class, so it's not like he was a 3rd rounder who could be OK |

Play the waiting game and you could be left with Coburn and Mez as your only two reliable dmen in two years. |

There's this thing called the off season. Not making a trade now doesn't mean they will stand pat in the summer. |

but the flyers had the worst record and lost out on Kane, they better make sure they get a good return for JVR |

if that's the deal, I'd rather get beauchemin/Gleason and pay less. for fowler or subban, I would discuss JVR. |

Schenn isn't a bad return. In fact he's been more consistent than JvR in his NHL career. The thing is, JvR has a higher ceiling. |
